COMMAND AND CONTROL (3)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Is.11:1-3

More Scriptures: Matt.5:6, 2Cor.10:6, Acts 6:7

The third secret for living a victorious life as the good shepherd is having the Spirit of counsel working in your life. As the head of the family, it is very important to have this Spirit in great measure in your life. Now what is counsel? It is the ability to give advice, guidance, instruction and direction. Now, the Spirit of counsel is the supernatural life of God that enables you to judge how best to act. A lot of the time as heads of our families, the reason for the bitterness and anger between us and our sheep is simply that we have not acted well. When our sheep act in ways that are not right, our reactions send them farther away from us rather than bring them closer.

So, these are some of the questions that you need to answer. How did you react the last time your wife disobeyed your instructions? How did you judge the matter between your wife and your mother? Was your judgement fair? When your child came home with a poor school result, how did you react? Did you condemn him or her? Did you advise them?  When you noticed that your sheep are failing in their responsibilities, did you instruct, guide and direct them in the way that they should go? As the shepherd of your sheep and sheepfold, God expects you to be able to provide answers to your wife and children, when they ask you questions. You are expected to judge rightly as the man, husband and father. Many shepherds have lost control and command over their sheep because of their inability to be the godly counsellor. And because they have not provided the right counsel to their sheep, their wife and children have been lured by the world, sin and the devil. They lost their sheep to drugs, alcoholism, gangsterism, prostitution, robbery, cultism, and much more.

Now how do I get this Spirit of God working in my life? The first step is for you to acknowledge that you lack it. In Matt.5, the Bible tells us this truth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled (Matt.5:6). Until you thirst for the Holy Spirit to impart you with the Spirit of counsel, you will never be filled. And when you are not filled, you will keep making wrong judgements, taking the wrong steps and this will affect your relationship with your sheep. The second step is for you to deepen your relationship with the Person of the Holy Ghost by acknowledging His Lordship over your life. The more you know Him through prayers, the more you know what to do, say and act. Thirdly, you must walk in the consciousness that He will always tell you what to do. There is so much you enjoy when the Spirit of Counsel is working in you. Ask for it and enjoy peace with your sheep.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from making wrong judgements over my sheepfold.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the Spirit of counsel in greater measure.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to guide, instruct, direct and judge fairly my life, wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the Spirit of counsel working in me and it shows in my thoughts, conduct, actions and decisions towards my wife and children and the challenges of life because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
