As the head of the family and the ambassador of Christ in your sheepfold and to your wife and children, you must understand that you represent God and His kingdom. And the Bible is the constitution that guides your actions and decisions as the godly man, husband and father. So, if you want to become the good and godly husbandman, then you must be acquainted with the Bible and live by it, day by day. In my walk with God and as the head of my family, I have come to discover that the best book which presents the true picture of who my wife and children have been created to be, is the Bible. Most times as the head of your family, you seem to be crowded by so many things-the books you read, the films you watch, other people and even suggestions from family and friends and even parents. And because of the rate of information being released daily, you are most likely to be at a loss as to determine what is right and acceptable and what is not. But the good news today is that you have a compass-The Bible. The Bible tells you of God’s intention for giving you a wife and blessing you with children. The Bible also teaches you the steps to take to maximize the potential and gifting that God has deposited inside your flock.
The Bible also empowers you to lead your wife and children courageously and in faith-daring the devil and winning in the contest of life. However, you must search the Bible for yourself. And this is why the main text of our study today is very important. In Jn.5:39, the word of God says, search the Scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of me (John 5:39). As a leader, whom God has ordained to superintend over the lives of your wife and children, you must delight in the Scriptures. It is not enough to hear the word on Sunday. You can never grow to become a triumphant husband if you are a Sunday student. The days we are in are perilous times-satan is viciously attacking husbands- the very foundation of the sheepfold. It is what you discover from the word of God that puts you in command of the affairs of your family as the head. However, for you to enjoy the fullness of the blessings of your search, you need to do the following. Firstly, engage the help of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). He is the only Person who can interpret the Scripture for you. He opens your eyes to see much more than the letters of Scriptures. Secondly, you must be willing and ready to obey every instruction He teaches you. This is what I call humility. Thirdly, engage the force of fasting and prayers (Mark 9:29). You cannot command access to deeper revelation from the word of God if you are not a man of prayer and fasting. Is this not the fast that I have chosen?….then shall thy light break forth as the morning (Isaiah 58:6,8).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver my body from the god of the belly.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, reveal deep truths to me and help me to use them profitably for my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me seeing eyes and hearing ears as I study Your word.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have made my BIBLE my daily companion and I dwell in it, think through it and exercise myself by it because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
