If I may ask you this question. As the head of your family, how long do you want to remain in that life of adultery, wife battering, stealing, unforgiveness, hatred and bitterness against your sheep? How long do you want to live as a sinner? How much longer do you want to live an irresponsible and godless life, bringing shame and embarrassment to your wife and children and the office of the husbandhood? And this is why I remark that only bad husbands hold unto godless lifestyles. You must understand that God did not make you to behave ungodly to your sheep. He made you in His image and likeness. He made you and sent you into your sheepfold to represent Him and project all the nature and blessings of the godly man, husband and father. Anything less, does not fit you.
As the good shepherd, it is very important to know that your wife and children are not as evil as you think. So, don’t foreclose on them and think nothing good can come from them. Furthermore, don’t allow their weaknesses and misbehavior make you start to do those things or take actions that the word of God considers as sin. There is something good about them yet to be discovered? But you must know that satan will never want you to see the good sides of your wife and children so he blinds you from seeing them. This is the more reason why today’s Scripture is critical to you for the survival of your office as a husband. Now consider this for a moment. What were those things you would not have enjoyed as a husband if you didn’t have a wife? What would your life have been if God didn’t bless you with a child(ren)? Do you remember that famous song that encourages us to count our blessings and name them one by one? As a husband, if you can truly think well and deep about your wife and children, you will be full of thanks to God for giving them to you. However, for you to cleave to what is good about your wife and children, you must decide daily to only consider what is good about them. Being thankful is not a gift. No husband is gifted to thank God for his flock. Thanksgiving is a choice, a deliberate one for that matter. You must make the choice to always give thanks to God for the gift of a wife and children. Another step to take is to encourage and support their good sides. Every time you celebrate your wife and children, you motivate them to be and give their best to you. Tell them how thankful you are to God for their lives. Tell them how strong they are and how impactful their actions have been to you and the people around them. Be their cheerleader. Don’t be an agent of discouragement. Cleave to doing good and you will enjoy the fruits. (2Timothy 2:6)
