UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF RELATIONSHIPS

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Samuel 13:3-5

More Scriptures: 1Corinthians 15:33, 1Corinthains 5:6, Ecclesiastics .9:4

One of the most important decisions you must make as the shepherd over the sheep of God is the type of relationship you create and keep. As the husbandman who desires to be the godly man, husband and father to his wife and children and the society, you will always be influenced by the people you closely relate to. Your decisions, actions and thoughts towards your wife and children can either be godly or ungodly. It all depends on the relationships you have and maintain. That was exactly what happened to Amnon. And it came to pass after this that Absalom, the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar, and Amnon the son of David loved her. And Amnon was so vexed that he fell sick for his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her (2Samuel 13:1-2). But something happened. Amnon had a friend, called Jonadab. When he told him of his plan, rather than his friend to discourage him, he gave him a plot. Jonadab said, lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick, and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand (2Samuel 13:5). And in the following verse, so Amnon did as he was advised.

As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, one of the enemies that you must fight and continue to fight is wrong relationships. There are some people that you must never tell about the challenges you are having with your sheep. There are some relationships that will not only hurt you but would take you away from your wife and children. There are also some other relationships that would make you act in ways you never wanted to or make you do the things you never wanted to do. Sometimes, even the places you don’t like to go, you find yourself there, not because you like it but because of the relationships you have entered into. As the leader in your home, whatever would set you against your wife and children must be resisted, it doesn’t matter who is giving it. There are some actions you took against your wife and children that you wished you never acted upon. However, for you to escape wrong relationships and save your family-fold from the corruption of this world, you must begin to evaluate your circle of friends. Relationships are not forced on people. It is a choice we all make. So, anyone or any relationship that does not make you better as a good and godly husband must be severed. Read this from the Bible. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful (Psalms 1:1).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from wrong counsel.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, bring me to men, husbands and fathers, who will strengthen my righteous walk.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of faith and boldness.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive power from high to refuse wrong counsel because I am committed to becoming a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus mighty Name. Amen.
