Main Scriptures: Philippians 3:8
More Scriptures: 2Cor.5:17, Philp.3:10, Eph.3:19
To put the Scripture in perspective for you as the head of your family, I would like to use the illustration of a man who wants to win the heart of a lady he likes. When a man likes a lady and wants to marry her, he does everything possible to sway the attention of the woman away from other men but to him. He puts up his best act. He gives her his best gifts. He spends more of his precious time with her. He dresses his best to impress her. He sometimes acts dumb by accepting the shortcomings of this lady. All he sees with, in and around the woman he wants to win over is good and perfect.
That is the exact attitude that God wants you to have towards Him. God wants you to be in Jesus Christ. He desires you to know as much as you can. He wants you to give Him your best, talk your best and act your best about who you are in Christ. This is what the Scripture says in 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 17. If any man be in Christ……… God wants to have a sweet fellowship with you and wants it to extend to your relationship with your wife and children and the world around you. God doesn’t want you to be neither cold nor hot. God wants you to run with the same passion that a man would run after a lady he likes.
But why would God want me to be in Him and love Him passionately? The first reason is because He made you. In Genesis chapter 2 and verse 14, God says that it is not good for the man to be alone. And in Genesis chapter 1 and verse 26, the word of God says that God made man in His image and likeness. The second reason is that the more of Him you pursue the more of His power you enjoy to influence your wife and children for godliness. The Bible says this of Apostle Paul. That I may know Him and the power of His salvation (Philp.3:10) God wants you to succeed as the man, husband and father. He wants you to be like Him-the godly shepherd. So, when you seek His attention by walking and doing all that He commands you to do, He empowers you to reign triumphantly in your sheepfold. The third reason is that without Him, you can do nothing (Jn.15:5b). The pressures and challenges and expectations for the godly husbandman is enormous. You cannot succeed by the arm of the flesh. You need the Jesus Christ to help you.
And as you seek to please Jesus Christ by doing His will to your sheep, you become attractive to your wife and children. Also, you become a godly role model to other husbands. Jesus Christ makes all the difference.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me to love You with all of my heart, soul and body.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to be passionate about serving You and Your interest in my sheepfold.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from weariness of the spirit.
FAITH CONFESSION
I renew my love for Christ and pursue His kingdom and His interests in my sheepfold and for my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
