Main Scriptures: Acts 1:1-2
More Scriptures: Ps.86:11, 1Tim.4:12, Pro.23:12
Yesterday, we considered one of the four ways the godly husbandman can lead his wife and children successfully and effectively. We establish that you must lead by practical example. That means that you say what you do and do what you say in line with the pattern Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband, has set.
Today, let us look at the second way you can influence your sheep positively. As the godly shepherd, you must lead by instructions. And that begins by knowing what is good and what is incorrect, using the word of God as your source document. You must understand that God has made you an instructor. God wants you to lead your wife and children in the way that they should go, the same way He leads you. Teach me the way, O Lord, I will walk in thy truth (Ps.86:11). There is a way God wants your sheep to go. There is a path that God has designed for your sheep. And He has given you the assignment to help your sheep arrive their destinations. You must not live your wife and children to chance. You must instruct them.
However, you cannot instruct them if you do not know. Afterall, you cannot give what you do not possess. So, you must give yourself to learning about Jesus Christ, His ways, His precepts and His desires. And the Bible provides you the source from where you can learn all about Him. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth but thou shalt meditate upon it day and night and thou shalt get good success (Jos.1:8). And in Proverbs, the Scripture has this to say. Take fast hold of instruction, let her not go, keep her, for she is thy life (Proverbs 4:13). It is when you have learnt how to listen to instructions that you can communicate same to your sheep. So, what you should concern yourself with now is this. How much do I know about what God expects of me as the man, husband and father? Am I obedient to what God commands me to do from His word? And what is my reaction and response to the instructions of God to me. If you are able to truthfully answer these questions, you will have enough to instruct your sheep.
As an instructor, there five instructional areas you owe your wife and children. The first is their spiritual life. The second is their social life. The third is their emotional life and the fourth is their financial life. The fifth is their physical life. As the shepherd over your sheep, you must understand that the pressures of life are intense. Your sheep wants to escape the pitfalls set by satan, sin and the world. So, they are looking to you to tell them what to do, how to do it and when to do it. Make yourself available for them. They need your instructions.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy pride and arrogance in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me a teachable spirit to learn of Your instructions.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a reliable and valuable instructor of Your word to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give heed to the instructions from the word of God and I extend the knowledge to my wife and children in love and compassion because that is what makes the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
