Main Scriptures: Gen.1:26-28
More Scriptures: Proverbs 13:5, Jn.14:6, Rom.13:13
Some days back, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we understood that every husbandman is not just made in the image of God, he is also to act like Christ. What gives value to our headship as the godly husbands lies principally on our action rather than our words. And that is when we earn our rewards from God. To help our understanding of who you are as the godly man, husband and father, we shall be exploring the real worth of the godly husbandman in the next few days.
Today, let consider the first attribute of the godly husbandman. It is HONESTY. Are you honest in your dealings with God, your wife and children and those around you? What is your best policy in life? Is it to be honesty or a deceiver? These are vital questions that you must consider today if you want to make any meaningful progress in your relationship with your sheep. Now read what the Scripture says about honesty. A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame. Proverbs 13:5. God needs you to be honest with Him. Your wife and children want you to be honest with them. They want you to be sincere and open to them. They don’t want you to lie to them. If you tell them that you are at your place of work, let it be the true position. If you tell your wife that you are travelling out of town for an official assignment, let it be true that you are indeed travelling. According to the word of God, a liar is also a wicked person and no wicked person ever gets the blessings from the Lord.
But why is honesty a key attribute of the godly husbandman? Firstly, because you have the nature of Jesus in you and He doesn’t lie. The Bible describes Him this way. I am the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn.14:6). There is no unrighteousness in Him. Everything He said that He will do, He has done. Secondly, your honesty facilitates the trust that your sheep has for you. There are two ways you can enhance the lifestyle of honesty. The first is for you to accept that truthfulness is profitable. So, embrace it. The second is for you to resist the temptation to be dishonest to your sheep. Try not to hide anything from your sheep. This includes but not limited to your relationships, finances, travels as well as your projects. You must never give in to the lie of the devil that you must not be open and transparent with your sheep. In the Book of Genesis chapter 2, the word of God tells us that the both of them were naked, the man and his wife and were not ashamed (Gen.2:25). You are an honest shepherd. Don’t live a dishonest life.

- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from secret sins.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be truthful, honest and faithful to my sheep in all things.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have the mind of Christ, who is honest, and I walk in that light in my dealings with my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
