Now mind the flesh, which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit is death, death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter. But mind of the Holy Spirit is life and peace both now and forever. So, then those who are living the life of the flesh, catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature cannot please or satisfy God or be acceptable to Him (Rom.8:8-9) Amplified.
You cannot live the godly life as the husband by the energy of the flesh. Infact, you become a tool in the hands of satan, sin and the world for the destruction of your life and the life of your sheep if you are not spiritual. So, the cure to carnality is for you to be spiritual. And this requires you to allow your life to be influenced by the dictates of the Person of the Holy Spirit. If you want to have victory over the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life, you must continue to engage the force of the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. And this includes giving your life to Jesus Christ, give attention to the study and meditation of the word of God, praying the word of God in your understanding and in the Holy Ghost, going for evangelism and fellowshipping with other godly men, husbands and fathers.
You must understand that carnality is subtle and any godly husbandman can fall into it if he is not vigilant. But as the head of your family and the spiritual authority in your sheepfold, what do you stand to gain if you allow your life to be ruled by the law of the Spirit in Christ Jesus? The Scriptures in Romans chapter 8 and verse 6 provides the answer. For to be CARNALLY MINDED is DEATH but to be SPIRITUALLY MINDED is LIFE and PEACE. From this verse of Scripture, you will notice that if you are carnally minded, that is taking decisions based on the tradition of your community or feelings rather than what the Bible teaches, it will lead you to death. You may lose your life, and the lives of your sheep. A lot of the time, it may not be convenient for you to extend kindness to your sheep because of the wrong they have to you, but you nevertheless show them mercy and kindness. When you are spiritual, it empowers you to act in proper manner that demonstrates that you are the good and godly husbandman.
God wants you to have peace of mind in your sheepfold. He wants you to enjoy life with your sheep. He made you in His image and likeness and wants that nature to be seen by your sheep. So, you must invest your resources and your life into the activities that will empower your spirit man so that you will not act like ungodly shepherd to your sheep.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live by Your Spirit in all that I do.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome every force of carnality in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, let my life reflect Your nature before all.
FAITH CONFESSION
I live by the dictates of the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus because that is the master key to becoming a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen
