BEHIND SERVANTHOOD (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.2:15-18

More Scriptures: Is.40:11, Jn.10:14, Heb.13:20

But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For who is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as HE THAT SERVETH (Lk.22:26-27).

When I read or listen to some of the comments husbands make about their position in their family-fold, I recognize that many do not understand who they really are. A lot of husbands claim that they are the heads but refuse to accept the responsibilities that the office of the husbandman commands.  Many more husbands are wallowing in ignorance. Some others are plain stubborn. However, as the good and godly husband, you must appreciate that there are two Scriptural truths that must guide your life. The first is that being a husband is a privilege from God. And secondly, being the godly shepherd is a call to greater responsibility. So, if you want to become the godly man, husband and father, you must embrace, wholeheartedly, these truths.

Let us consider the first truth-PRIVILEGE. To be a husband is a privilege given to you by God, and you do not take it for granted. Rather, you cherish it. I once said that any man can be a father but not any man can be the godly husband. You have fathers who are not married to the mothers of their children but you cannot have a husband who is not married to a wife. You are married not because you are richer or smarter or more educated than your other male friends. It is just that God’s mercy and favour located you and gave you a wife so that you can be her lord and spiritual leader. This is what the Scriptures say. He that finds a wife has found a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord (Pro.18:22). And, it is not good the man to be alone, I (God) will make for him a help meet suitable for him (Gen.2:18). There are many men who are so well connected, exposed and even rich. They have all the material and financial statistics that can make any woman to fall, yet they have remained unmarried. There are others who do not have as much money as you would think and yet they are happily married and living life as the good and godly husband. So, to become a husband is a God-given opportunity for you to demonstrate His love and character towards your wife and children. It is your best platform of leadership. The office that you occupy is a position of trust, which you must not abuse. Your wife and children are looking up to you for guidance and direction. You are there for your wife and children to galvanize them to greater heights.  Maximize the most of your time with your wife and children as their husband and father. You may not have another chance again.

SPIRITUAL EXRCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with a new zeal to uphold my office with a servant mentality.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me not to disappoint the confidence You have in me.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to make the most of headship as a husband.

FAITH CONFESSION

I honor God for making me a husband and I value the office of the husbandman because that is what I need to be a good and godly husband in Jesus mighty Name. Amen.
