Main Scriptures: Heb.12:15
More Scriptures: Ezk.28:13, Jn.10:10, Col.3:19
As a husband who strives to be a good and godly shepherd, one of the forces that you must contend with on the basis of the victory that Jesus has procured for you by His death and resurrection is bitterness. It is one fox that you must recognize as an ungodly seed and plead the blood of Jesus against it. You must recognize that bitterness is filthy and it defiles your spirit and extends to your organs and ultimately your body (2Cor.7:1). This is why Looking diligently, lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many defiled. Youmay not like this, but it is the truth and God is not a respecter of persons, whether you are a bishop, a layman, a worker in the church, an artisan, a politician, founder of a ministry or whatever title you have. BITTERNESS DEFILES THE SPIRIT OF THE GODLY HUSBANDMAN. Now, what does it mean for your spirit to be defiled as a husband? Defilement means to pollute or contaminate something that is hitherto pure, with the ultimate aim of destroying it.
So, you can see that the main reason why satan wants to fill your heart with bitterness toward your wife and children is to contaminate your glorious destiny. In John 10:10, hear what the Scripture says about the mission of satan. The thief (satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy…….(Jn.10:10). The devil wants to steal, kill and destroy your family kingdom, wherein God has made you the head of the family. Satan thrives in deceit and lies, and the vehicle he would use to defile you is bitterness. There is no way you can pray for your wife and children when you are bitter toward them. There is no way you can think right thoughts or good and godly things about your wife and children if you are bitter with them. In Ezk.27:30, the Scripture has this to say. It says… and shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes (Ezk.27:30). Every time you are bitter against your wife or children (Col.3:19), your heart and life is filled with ashes. And you know what ashes represent. It is the insignificant part of the wood. A lot of the times, ashes are trampled upon. Can I tell you why you must never harbour bitterness against your wife and children? It is because your sheepfold is a place of treasures, beauty and glory. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God, every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold, the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was PREPARED IN THEE (YOU) IN THE DAY THAT THOU WAST CREATED (Ezk.28:13)
