For the WORD OF GOD is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow and is discerned of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb.4:12). If you can believe this Scripture enough, you will give your whole strength to the study of the Bible-the word of God. And very importantly, the word of God is the most treasured investment you can make into the lives of your wife and children.
But why is the word of God so important in your leadership role as the godly husband? The first is that the word of God is alive. Every instructions and commandments from the word of God give life to you and your sheep. The word of God can bring to life anything that is dead or out of course in the lives of your sheep. The second is that the word of God is powerful. It can destroy the power of the prince of the air working disobedience in the lives of your sheep. The word of God can break stubbornness, disrespect, dishonor, revenge, bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred and bad will at work in the lives of your sheep. The word of God is so sharp that it can help you to discern right from wrong. It can help you to know what the thoughts and intentions of your sheep are and as well as people around you.
So, do you have a wife who is disrespectful, dishonest or unhospitable? Do you also have children who seem to continue to go in the direction of immorality and indiscipline? God’s word is the answer and not malice, shouting or physical assault. Your wife and children cannot resist the force of the word of God. You can subdue them by the power in the word. You can also drive away ungodly influences in and around their lives. But how do you achieve this? Firstly, you must trust that the word of God is true. This is because what you don’t trust, you can’t follow. Secondly, you must maintain consistency in the study and meditation of the word of God and subsequently sow the word into the lives of your sheep. Don’t give up on the word of God and the positive changes you pray to see in your wife and children. You must be hopeful in the word of God. Hope is what gives strength to your faith that your wife and children can be better. And you must be mindful of the people you surround yourself with. There are people whose word could discourage you and render your faith in the word of God impotent. And as you commit to taking up these responsibilities, you would have created an enduring legacy for your family. Your name and family would become an agent of trans-generational blessings (Gen.12:1-3). You will also enjoy the peace of God that passes all understanding and joy in the Holy Ghost. You will enjoy the soundness of mind.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to study and meditate on Your word as a lifestyle.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, let Your word transform me.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to use Your word to bring the needed positive changes in the lives of my sheep.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give maximum attention to the WORD OF GOD and I engage it to transform my life and that of my sheep because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
