EXERCISE DAILY IN GOD (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Tim.4:6-10

More Scriptures: Philp.4:8, Ps.1:1, Eph.5:25

Yesterday, we talked about the first equipment-the word of God- that you need to engage yourself with if you want to be a man, husband and father that God and your wife and children will be pleased with. Today, let us consider the second spiritual equipment. It is the power of meditation. Meditation is the most potent weapon you need to enjoy the benefits of studying the word of God-Bible. Now this is the simple analogy of the importance of meditation. When you eat food, it passes through into your stomach. Inside the stomach, the food is digested and the nutrients are distributed to the parts of your body systems that need it. These nutrients help in the growth and development of your whole body. That is exactly what happens with studying and meditating on the word of God. So, eating food is like studying God’s word and digestion is like meditation. Therefore, it is not enough for you to exercise yourself in the word, it is much more important for you to mediate on what you have studied.

Let us see what the Bible says about this concerning you. Blessed is the man……. (Ps.1:1a) The blessed man is a disciplined person. He is the man whose ways, actions, conduct and thoughts please God and the people, especially his sheep. But what is the secret? It is in verse 2. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT (Ps.1:2). But what does it mean to meditate? It simply means to think about and think through words. So, when for instance, you read from the word of God that husbands love thy wife as Christ has loved the church (Eph.5:25), you take time to think on it. And you do this by asking questions like, what does it mean to love my wife and how did Jesus love the Church. As you think on this, so many questions arise and that motivates you to seek answers from the Bible as well as other anointed books. Hence, the more questions you ask the more answers you get and that helps you to take pleasure in becoming the answer to your wife and children.

You must not just read your bible for the sake of it. You must be deliberate in seeking answers to the questions about who you are as good and godly husbandman. And as you intentionally study the word, you must think on it all day as your action point. You must understand that you cannot be greater than what you think. Your thought is as powerful as your life. You cannot act better than what your thought life is. The Scripture has this to say in that regards. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Pro.23:7).  It is for this reason that you must protect your heart so that it does not get poisoned by negative seeds-suggestions and advices.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be disciplined with my thought life and help me to invest it in Your word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me think on and through Your word and make me delight in the truth.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, guard my heart and thoughts from distractions and help me to remain focused on Your word.

FAITH CONFESSION

I think on and through the word of God and I act on the revelation knowledge in my relationship with my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
