Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Tim.3:1-7

More Scriptures: Jas.1:5, Jn.3:7, 1Thess.2:7

A leader must not be pushy but gentle……(1Tim.3:3-4) MSG

Jesus Christ, speaking said this, be wise as a serpent and be gentle as a dove…… As the good shepherd, you have the nature of Jesus Christ in you and that nature is a gentle nature. It is also very important for you to know that being gentle doesn’t make you a weak husbandman. And do not allow satan to make you act otherwise. As the head of the family and the shepherd over your sheep, the question that you must put before your wife and children is this. “Am I gentle with my wife and children?”

So, what does it take to be gentle from the Bible perspective? Gentleness is the quality of being kind and careful. It is the perfect way of describing the way someone responds in a soft and calm manner. And this reflects in the words that they speak. One of the fruits of the Spirit of Jesus Christ is gentleness. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband, spoke soothing words to His disciples. When Jesus spoke to Peter about the need for Him to wash his feet, Peter refused. He insisted that Jesus will never wash his feet. Rather than Jesus to be aggressive to Peter, He gently explained to him the significance of the act of washing his feet. It is the act of gentleness displayed by Jesus that dissolved the hardness of Peter’s heart and made him to submit himself to be washed. A lot of the time, your sheep will display tendencies that suggest that they are stubborn and disobedient. Sometimes, their attitude could get you on edge. Most times, you may be tempted to want to talk to them harshly or even act disrespectfully to them. However, Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband commands you to be gentle with them. God wants you to speak to them in a gentle manner. He wants you to react to them in a gentle manner and lead them in a gentle manner also.

But how do you act like the gentle Jesus Christ to your sheep? The first step is for you to invite Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and personal savior. Jesus speaking said that ye must be born again (Jn.3:7). New birth is the starting point to a godly relationship with Jesus. The second step is for you to ask for the release of the Spirit of gentleness from the Lord Jesus through the Holy Ghost. The Scripture says that if any lack………let him ask and the Lord shall give liberally (Jas.1:5). You have to ask not in doubt but in faith. Thirdly, you must create the atmosphere of peace, friendliness and partnership in your sheepfold. And you can do this by knowing the personalities of your sheep. When you know your sheep, they also understand you. And this relationship creates harmony in your sheepfold and not tension.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask You to forgive me for being rash and ill-mannered to my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask for Your mercy to prevail in my life for not being gentle to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to talk and relate with my wife and children in a gentle manner.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive the Spirit of gentleness and I conduct myself and relate with my wife and children in a gentle manner because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
