Main Scriptures: 1Pet.3:7-9
More Scriptures: Eph.1:18, Jn.14:26, Jn.16:13
One of the reasons why I ask questions a lot is because of what I have learnt from one of my mentors, Dr. John Maxwell. In his book, Great Leaders Ask Questions, he emphasized the importance of asking the right questions because that is the pathway to self discovery. And I can tell you that this approach has helped me a great deal in my personal walk with God and in ministry. So, today, I will be asking you some questions. I trust the Holy Spirit to stir up in your heart a deep sense of urgency to want to know your wife better, with the ultimate aim of treating her with honour and dignity and not as a piece of furniture or a woman of no value.
Do you really know your wife? Do you understand her make up as a woman? Do you know how she functions at every phase of her life? Do you know her temperaments? Do you know her strengths, weaknesses and fears? Do you know her hopes and desires? A lot of the time, the problem you are having with your wife is rooted in your ignorance-lack of knowledge of her personality. Sometimes, it is not because the devil is stronger but it is for the fact that you don’t know her. God has designed your wife with certain characteristics unique to her alone. Looking at how God created you and your wife, you would understand that your wife is different. God created you out of raw material-dust. There was not a man to till the ground. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed (Gen.2:5-8).
But when God wanted to create the woman, it was different. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man (Gen.2:21-23). Your wife is made from a finished product, while you are made from raw dust. This is why the Scripture commands you to deal with your wife according to knowledge and not beating her up or doing acts that would hurt her life (1Pet.3:7). It is possible to stay with your wife all the days of your life and never for once cheat on her, argue with her or even physically assault her. But how do I understand my wife?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, grant me access into Your plans for my wife.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the root of spiritual blindness in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me the things I ought to know about Your gift to me, my wife.
FAITH CONFESSION
I start today to know my wife and will deal with her as Christ because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
