I know that all husbands must have come across a door in their lives either in their homes or offices. Well, while I was at a meeting, the Holy Spirit, began to teach me the connection between the function of the hinges on a door and that of the husband. He said and I quote, “every husband is a hinge”. What this means is that you are the invisible but most important part of your wife and children. The same way the hinges of a door gives support and stability to the door such that it can swing effortlessly, is exactly how your headship should affect your flock. Though the hinges are about the smallest component of the door, yet it is very important to the door. As a husband, many people may not see what you do and are still doing in the lives of your wife and children. The Scripture says of Jesus, the perfect example of a good and godly husband. I came that they may have life and have it more abundantly.

You are in the lives of your sheep to give them meaning and value. But what do the hinges do for the door? Firstly, it supports the door. It is the hinge that connects the frame around which the door would be fitted. That is what God calls you to be in the lives of your flock. Secondly, the hinges make it possible for the door to be locked with keys from inside and outside. Without the hinges, the door cannot stand for you to apply the keys through the keyholes to lock it. That is who you are. As a husband, you help your flock to align their lives such that it is firmly shut against intruders. In Jn.10, the Scripture has this to say about your relevance in the lives of your flock. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand (Jn.10:27-28).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a profitable servant to my flock.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every landmine of pride and a haughty spirit.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to give abundant life to my flock.

FAITH CONFESSION I am a hinge sent by God to provide support and direction to my wife and children in the love of Christ because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen
