Main Scriptures: 2Pet.2:18
More Scriptures: 1Tim.5:8, Jn.16:13, Jn.14:26
For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error (2Pet.2:18).
One of the great mistakes we make as husbands is to water down the word of God as it regards our responsibilities as the heads of our families. We tend to rationalize the word of God. Sometimes, we think that our experiences or background can replace the pattern that God has set for us to follow. And sadly, many husbands are living in error of tradition, culture and their social environment. The consequences are what we see today-husbands who no longer command respect, authority and influence in their family fold and the environment they live in. But what is behind this error that husbands are living in? It is a force, and it is called the spirit of error. We are of God, he that knoweth God heareth us, he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby, know ye the spirit of truth and the spirit of error (1Jn. 4:6).
As a husband, you must understand that there is a spirit that is behind those half-truths that distort the truth of God’s word about your covenant demands to your wife and children. For instance, it is an error to be the sheep rather than the shepherd – a situation where it is your wife who is the provider (1Tim.5:8). Unfortunately, many husbands have become dependents on their wives incomes and they are so comfortable. Where is your honour? They hide under the guise that they are now one flesh with their wives. But they forget that they are not one with their wives in covenant responsibilities. And the Scripture clearly defines the lines, just the same way you have track lines clearly drawn in athletics. There are a lot of errors being taught today that has depleted the power of the office of the husbandman.
