OVERSIGHT FUNCTIONS (2)

And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds and they shall be fruitful and increase. And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the Lord (Jer.23:3-4)

The Scripture in Jer.23:3-4 gives us a graphic picture of how God carried out His oversight function over the Israelites. God ensured that they were all in one fold in unity. For as many that went astray, He worked hard to recover and to reconcile them back to the sheepfold. And in those areas where they lacked materially, emotionally, financially, mentally, He fed them. He ensured that they increased more and more and never decreased. He gave them hope to the extent that they were not afraid of the terror by night or the evil reports from outside where they lived (Ps.91:5-6). He became their cheerleader when it appeared they were discouraged. That is exactly the functions that God expects you to perform in your oversight duties on your wife and children. And He has provided a template in Jesus Christ-the perfect example of a good and godly husband. You must appreciate that you are made in the image of the trinity (Gen.1:26, Jn.1:1-3). So, whatever God did to Israel and whatever Jesus did to His disciples, you have been empowered to do the same to your flock. But how do I exercise my functions over my wife and children, impactfully? You do that not grudgingly but willingly, joyfully and committedly because whatever is done out of pride and arrogance will not benefit the person who is being fed and the person feeding. At the foundation of your action is the love of Christ. You must always settle this truth in your heart that your wife and children are from God. You did not create them. So, you must handle them as precious gifts from the Lord.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to feed my wife and children profitably.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, bless the works of my hands and let the fruits there from feed my wife, children and others.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, uphold me with Your right hand of righteousness and help me to stand on the truth.

FAITH CONFESSION

I set out to perform my oversight function over my wife and children in the fear and admonition of the Lord because that is the will of God for me as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
