TEACHING THEM HIS WORDS AND HIS WAYS (1)

One of the greatest heritages every godly husband has toward his wife and children is to teach them the word and way of God. It is more enduring than the money in the bank or the houses you have bequeathed to them. It is much more relevant than the latest fashion dress you buy for them or the most exotic destinations you take them to for vacation. If you can invest your time and resources to teach them the word and way of God, they shall become like the tree that is planted by the rivers of water whose leaves never wither.

As the head of the family, it important for you to appreciate the ultimate reason why God gave you a wife and children, who are your first followers. They are your followers and you are their leader and you owe them that commitment to teach them from the word of God the ways they should go and the way they should live their lives. If you read the account of your perfect example, Jesus Christ of the good and godly husband in Mk.6:34, you will realize that He was not just a Teacher, He took time out to teach His disciples. So, you can see that your ultimate role you have to your sheep is to teach them. This means you are an ordained teacher, teaching them God’s precepts and principles as it relates to their character and attitude, relationships, health, finances, and much more. And Jesus came, when he came out saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things. Mk.6:34. You must understand that sometimes your wife and children may not need healing of physical ailment or sickness, instead what they need is to be healed of emotionally sickness, which includes fear, intimidation, bullying, and phobia. Whatever is lacking in the lives of your wife and children, it is your responsibility to guide and teach them from the word of God as your compass.

But how do I guide or teach my wife and children? You do this by living out God’s word for them to see. This means your life sets the examples for them to follow. For instance, your wife may be intimidated by fear of failure or death or even depression. You can teach her by sharing with her your own example of how you overcame your own fear by the word of God. This involves sharing your personal testimonies of victories. When you are faced with tremendous pressure of any sort, let your attitude in the way you handle the matter inspire her to be confident that she also can win. You can also extend the same method, which is your example, to your children.  Your children will always learn better with examples. However, you cannot have examples if you do not take personal responsibility to be an example. Until you have taken the steps, it is foolishness to ask others to. It is the steps that you have taken which have produced results that you can teach to your wife and children. 

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from ungodliness and dishonourable living.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, make my heart to receive Your instructions with gladness.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with a deeper understanding of Your ways and help me to teach my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

Lord, teach me Your ways, and empower me to teach my wife and children as their leader in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
