WHAT STUFF AM I MADE OF? (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Titus 1:6-19

More Scriptures: Jn.15:5, Jn.10:9, Eph.2:18

If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God, not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre. But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate, holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers (Titus 1:6-19).

Yesterday, the Person of the Holy Spirit helped us to appreciate the importance of discovering ourselves from the Word of God. And that if any husbandman can discover himself in Jesus Christ, he is enthroned in honour and glory in his sheepfold and in the lives of his sheep as the good and godly shepherd. Today let us conclude on it. The godly husband does not give himself to drinking alcohol. If the Word of God says that you must not give yourself to drinking alcohol, it is true and uncontestable. It is ungodly for you to be drinking beer, alcoholic wine either at the bar, at home or in any place or under any circumstance for that matter. The godly husband does not fight either physically or emotionally. There are husbands who have never beaten their wives physically but have done worse emotionally.

Now what does it mean to abuse your wife or children emotionally? It means you constantly criticize them no matter the level of success or results they have. Everything they do is never right- you condemn their dressing, criticize your wife’s cooking, you call your children dullards and useless and much more. The godly husband is not greedy and does not manifest uncontrollable appetite for food, money, sex and materials. He will not substitute the integrity of his wife and children because of money and position. There are husbands who have joined cult groups because of position. Some have raped their wives while others have even killed because they are desperate for money and materials. The godly husband loves hospitality. As the head of the family, you must recognize that hospitality is not measured in quantity but in quality and right attitude. You must be receptive and friendly and willing to give. The godly husband must be sober. To be sober as the head of the family is an important characteristic. It affords you the opportunity to evaluate your life on a consistency basis. And what it does for you is that it helps your capacity to be sensitive to your sheepfold and your sheep. The godly husband must be holy. You must hate what is evil and love what is right, using the word of God as a basis. The godly husband must be seen to be just and fair. For example, it is unfair and unjust for you to be generous to outsiders, including close family relations and be stingy to your wife and children. As the godly husband, you must continue to examine your life and conduct against the truth of God’s word because that is the only way you can grow into becoming the godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make my life a living sacrifice to You and to Your word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every wrong concept and tradition pushing me to work against my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to be the good and godly husband to my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I reinvent myself from the word of God and I recommit my life to be the godly man, husband and father to my wife and children because that is what makes me the godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen
