Yesterday, the Person of the Holy Spirit taught us the most important virtues that we must possess as the good and godly husbandman if we want to grow into a spiritual authority in our sheepfold and become a positive influence on our sheep. Today, let us see how you and I can remain steadfast in our calling as husbands who are in Christ. For you and I to remain in Christ despite the challenges confronting us as spiritual heads of our families, we must do the following. Firstly, as the head of the family, you and I must be selfless in serving our sheep. God is as much interested in your money as He is interested what you are to your wife and children. God also values the quality of your relationship with Him and how it affects your wife and children. He wants a relationship with you so that through your wife and children can understand the beauty of a godly relationship. In 2Cor. 8:5, the Scriptures say that they first gave their own selves to the Lord.
Many husbands make the mistake to think that having much money or houses or even prestige are signs that they are in Christ Jesus or living the living like Jesus Christ. They forget the spiritual demands of word study, prayers and fasting, meditation and faith. It is this deceit from hell that has made many husbands to become weaklings to the extent that they cannot lay hands on their sick wife or children and experience the power of God healing them. As the head of the family, do not be satisfied just being a provider. You must strive to become a spiritual force and authority in your sheepfold. But for you to make the most of the value God has for your relationship with Him, you must renounce self. This means that your decision towards your wife or children is not influenced by selfish desires but by what God says about the matter. This means allowing the will of God to prevail over your own will. For instance, self will not want to forgive your wife or children for something they did. But if you have renounced self, you will allow the will of God to rule your decision, and that is to forgive them. You must understand that every time you allow your flesh to dictate to you, then you have not renounced self. The second thing that you must as the godly shepherd who is in Christ is to make Jesus Christ the Lord over all. It is said that if God is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all. Some husbands recognize God as the Lord in some areas of their lives and decisions but do not recognize Him as Lord in other areas. As the spiritual head of your family, you must make God the Lord over your finances, the way and manner you relate with your wife and children, in your business, career, finances and in every of your endeavour. This is how to become the good and godly man, husband and father who is Christ.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, I bring my all under Your total control and influence
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, create in me clean heart and a right spirit towards You and Your words.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, please show me mercy in all that I may have done wrong to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have made up my mind to give myself totally to God and His commandments so that I may be useful to my wife and children as the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
