THE CHANGE MAKER (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Phil.3:13-14

More Scriptures: 1Sam.2:6, Heb.7:12, Lk.15:22

Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead. I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philp.3:12-14) New American Standard

Yesterday, by the Help of the Holy Spirit, we looked at the need for husbands to accept that there is always room for improvement. That God has a better way for them to lead their sheep and if they commit themselves to learning, they will be great and godly husbandmen to their sheep. So, are you willing to change from your old ways to God’s ways? Today, by the grace we will be looking at how to translate the changes into the lives of our sheep. To be a change agent, you must acknowledge that you are the head of your family and that places on you higher responsibilities. And this cuts across various functional areas. As the head of your family, you must behave like God by providing for the needs of your wife and children. In 1Tim.5:8, the Word of God commanded husbands to provide for their households. It went further to describe what happens to such a husband who does not provide for his family. The Scripture says that he is worse than an unbeliever (1Tim.5:7-8). This means when you fail to make provision available for your family fold, it nullifies your faith and believe. And it is not just only material and financial provisions, you must also provide spiritual, emotional and physical protection for your wife and children. And one of the ways is for you to continually uphold your family in fasting and prayers and also teaching them in the way and admonition of the word of God (Eph.6:4). Thirdly, you must devote your precious time to your sheep. This will require a great deal of sacrifice from you- forgoing your leisure and pleasure for your family, sometimes abandoning your friends to be with your family. When you allow these changes to gain root in your life and diligently translate the results into the lives of your wife and children, you will experience joy unspeakable in your home. You will also enjoy greater commitment from your wife and children. It will also create a better and stronger bond between you and your sheep.

However, you must understand that you have the enormous responsibility of sustaining this change in your life and that of your sheep. Therefore, you must develop the lifestyle of engaging in spiritual exercises of fasting, prayers and the study of God’s word. You must daily contend with the adversary of your position. You must always be on guard by putting on the loins of truth, the shield of faith, the sword of the spirit and the helmet of salvation. So, your glory as the head of the family begins with a change from within you. Thereafter, you can effect those godly changes in the lives of your wife and children and the market places of life.
