Main Scriptures: Lk.22:30-31
More Scriptures: Rom.10:10, Prov.4:7, Rev.12:10
I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself. It must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. (Jn.15:1-4) New International Version.
I have come to discover that when a member of our sheep misbehaves, we tend to look at the wrong direction for the cause. And a lot of the times, we miss the target and watch things deteriorate from bad to worse. So today, I want to point you in the right direction by looking at the life of perfect example of the good and godly husbandman-JESUS CHRIST. During the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, Peter was the closest disciple to Jesus. Infact, he was a strong member of the inner circle of Jesus. He had access to some of the workings of Jesus that others did not have. But on this fateful day, something unusual happened. Satan “taketh” Peter. Peter began to argue with Jesus when Jesus wanted to wash his feet. Jesus understood how the things of the Spirit work. He did not attack Peter directly. He confronted the force working disobedience in him. He rebuked satan (Eph.2:2). Now, this is the point. Every time your wife and children misbehave or act in ways that almost make you wonder if they are your sheep, know in your spirit that satan “taketh” them. Your wife and children have not been created and given to you to cause you pain and discomfort. They are in your life to help you and make you a proud man, husband and father. So, anything to the contrary is influenced by satan.
So, how do I deliver my sheep the same way Jesus delivered Peter? Firstly, cast away the spirit of unrighteousness by the power of the word of God in your heart and by your declarations. In several passages of Scripture, God’s word provides us the power of your confession. For instance, the power of life and death is in the tongue (Pro.18:21). Also, the Bible says, declare that thou mayest be justified (Is.43:26). And in Rom.10:10, the word of God says, with the heart man believeth and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The second practical step to take is to ask for divine wisdom from the Lord. You need the operation of the wisdom of God at work in your life to enable you handle your wife and children. The wisdom of God will help you to speak wisely, rightly and timely. It puts you in command of the situation at the home front so much so that when you speak, the convicting power of the Holy Spirit will work through you to bless your sheep. Satan is your arch enemy. You must contend with him in battle and put him where he belongs-under your feet.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with divine wisdom and help me to operate in it.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to function as the head and leader in my home.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every foolish speaking.
FAITH CONFESSION
I take responsibility to secure my wife and children from the influences of satan by speaking the word of God into their lives because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
