Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation (2Cor.5:17-19) NIV
Let me begin by saying that no husband can love his wife as Christ has loved the church until, he has first love Jesus. Everything about the character of God’s kind of love is found in Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband. This is so important because as the shepherd of the sheepfold of God, you cannot give what you do not have. It is from the abundance of what is inside you that you can give out. And Christ’s love is what you greatly desire to have in abundance in your spirit so that you can extend same to your wife and children without hesitation. This is why the word of God has this to say. Come unto me all……….. Jesus Christ has given you an open invitation to come to Him. He has the power to fill you with the capacity to fulfill His commandment in Ephesians chapter 5 and verse 25. Husbands, love thy wife as Christ has loved the church and gave himself (Eph.5:25).
So, as the good shepherd, you must not only be born again, you must deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ. Like Apostle Paul said, that I may know Him and the power of His salvation. You must continue to seek to know Him and increase in knowledge. This is because the more you know Him, the better your response would be to the weakness and failure of your wife and children. Another wisdom key is to always take the position of Christ anytime you seem to be challenged and unhappy with the attitude of your wife and children. What this means is to ask yourself that if Jesus Christ was to replace you what would He do when your sheep disappoints or hurts you. When you allow this consciousness to be well seated in your spirit man, you will not be quick to speak evil, act irresponsibly neither would be comfortable in sin. But you must build this attitude with the help of the Holy Spirit through effective communication on the altar of prayer. Prayer remains an indispensable force for your victory as the godly man, husband and father. It is your life wire to loving your sheep always. You cannot do it by your strength. You must challenge yourself to exercise God’s kind of love to your sheep. You must love them not as the world loves but as God loves. You must understand that your heritage as the godly shepherd lies in your disposition to your sheep. So, love them with the passion of Jesus Christ. It is profitable.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the knowledge of Your love.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to pray Your will for my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be steadfast in loving my wife and children as You would.
FAITH CONFESSION
I live by the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus and through the power of the Holy Ghost I love my wife and children as Jesus Christ would because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
