YOUR RIGHTS, RESPONSIBILITIES (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.18:17-19

More Scriptures: Eph.5:22, Tit.2:19, 1Pet.3:7

Many a time as heads of our families, we are always quick to remind our sheep of our rights but not our responsibilities. We demand from them what is due to us as rights and privileges but fail to respond to and fulfill our covenant demands and obligations to them. This has led to many clashes in the sheepfold leading to bitterness, betrayal of trust, unforgiveness and revenge. So, in the next few days, I will be sharing with every husbandman who desires to become the godly man, husband and father the secret to a triumphant shepherdhood. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that you will open your heart to learn the depth of your covenant responsibilities and how it can facilitate complete submission, respect and honour from your wife and children.

So, I will begin this expository by defining what a right is and what responsibility is. I trust the Person of the Holy Spirit that at the end of this teaching, you would understand the difference between right and responsibilities and how you can balance it as the husbandman and leader in your family fold. A RIGHT-is ENTITLEMENT, PRIVILEGE OR DUE. RESPONSIBILITY- is a STATE OR FACT OF BEING ACCOUNTABLE OR TO BLAME FOR SOMETHING. Now, let us draw inferences from these definitions, specifically as it concerns you and me as husbands and heads of our families. As the husbandman, it is your entitlement for your wife to submit to you in all things (Eph.5:22, 24, Tit.2:9, 1Pet.3:6). So, you don’t have to beg or remind her. But if you are struggling to get submission from your wife, then know that there is a challenge. It is your due for your children to obey you in all things (Eph.6:1, Col.3:20, Pro.23:22). So, you don’t struggle with your son or daughter to obey your instructions, whether in your presence or absence. They just fall in line, willingly, doing what is right.

However, you have a responsibility toward your wife and children. It is your absolute responsibility to provide for your family-accommodation, material and financial provisions, spiritual meat and nourishment, physical and emotional protection, guidance and mentoring. That is your God ordained responsibility. A few Scriptures suffice. For I (God) know him that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Gen.18:19). Did you notice that God did not mention his wife? God was talking to the head of the family just the same He is also talking to you through this devotional. In Gen.2:15-18, the Word of God came to the husband by a command that they should not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God also commanded him to dress and keep the garden, which symbolizes the family fold. God could have waited until the wife came before He gave the command. But God knew what He was doing. He wanted to hold someone accountable for whatever goes wrong with family.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see the fullness of my inheritance as the godly man, husband and father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be responsible as the godly man, husband and father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach and help me to appreciate my rights given to me by my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I know my rights and I take responsibility to do all that God commands me to do as the godly man, husband and father to my wife and children because that is what makes me the godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
