By the grace of God and the help of my greatest Teacher and Counselor, the Person of the Holy Spirit, we shall be embarking on an 8-day journey. I trust God that as we engage our lives to do what is commanded of us as heads of our families and the spiritual leaders of our sheepfolds, we shall be empowered to become good and godly husbands in Jesus name. Amen. In this series, let us consider some of the characteristics that make for a good and godly husband, and that is what I called the covenant demand of your position. The first covenant demand is that EVERY HUSBAND MUST BE LEGALLY MARRIED TO HIS WIFE, otherwise he is a thief (Jn.10:1). You are not a husband yet until you set the foundations right. Find a wife, get the consent and blessing (goodwill) of her parents, pay her dowry and present her to the world in Church.
So, if you have a woman living in your house and you have not done the right things, you are considered a thief. You may want to ask, “why am I considered a thief?” You are a thief because you did not come in through the door but climbeth up some other way. In Jn.10:1, the Scripture says, verily, verily, I say unto you, he that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. You are enjoying the services of a woman you did pay for. However, you can quickly make amends by doing what the word of God says. In verse 2 of Jn.10, the Scripture says but he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. So, as a husband and the head of your family, the first step to becoming a good and godly husband is to set the right pegs in right holes. This is so important because if the foundation is wrong, anything that is built on it cannot stand the test of time. Some of the blessings you enjoy when you marry your wife legally, are firstly, you access the favour of God (Pro.18:22), and secondly, you enjoy authority (Jn.10:28). The Scripture says and I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. When you do the right thing, you can confidently declare God’s authority over your wife and children.
