COVENANT RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GODLY HUSBANDMAN (4)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: John 10:1-end

More Scriptures: Jn.10:5, Mk.9:29, Matt.6:63

Another demand I want us to consider today is taken from Jn.10:5. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him, for they know not the voice of strangers. As the head of your family, you COMMAND ENORMOUS INFLUENCE OVER YOUR OWN FLOCK TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY ARE NOT INFLUENCED BY THE PULLS OF THIS WORLD.  From our passage today, you could perceive how powerful the shepherd is. He exacts so much influence over His flock that it becomes impossible for any ungodly attraction or unreasonable people to take them away from the path of righteousness. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, you are a man of influence, great influence. You have so much power from God to impart your wife and children for the glory of Jesus Christ. Recall the encounter in Jos.24:13-15. The people of Israel seemed to be unsure of their stand with God. And Joshua, the leader, who took over from Moses, stood up and declared, “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord”. And the people responded, “We will serve the Lord”. The questions that you should ask yourself today are these.

How much influence do you exert over your wife and children? How much of your life as a good and godly husband has been built into the lives of your flock? Have you been able to lay a godly sound foundation for your wife and children to build on? Who do they (wife and children) think I am? How much of my teachings have been entrenched into their hearts? How loud is my voice in their lives? You must understand that there are so many distractions out there, calling for the attention of your wife and children. From peer pressure, to worldly role models, to the lust of the flesh and the pride of life, are competing to have a space in the lives of your flock. Your flock cannot run away from the market places of life. They will meet with people, visit places and read books. No matter where they find themselves, your godly influence will secure their destinies. However, to make your influence great, you must engage the weapons of fasting and prayers and word study (Matt.6:63, Mk.9:23). You don’t only desire His lifestyles; you also pray it into reality.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, make me a positive example to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, let my life count mightily in the lives of my wife and children.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, make my voice louder than the voice of strangers.

FAITH CONFESSION

My voice shall continue to be louder than the voice of strangers in the lives of my wife and children because Jesus Christ has made me a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen
