Spread the love

Main Scriptures: John 10:1-end

More Scriptures: John 10:14, 1Pet.3:7, 1Thess.4:4

As we work to conclude these series, I believe that the Person of the Holy Spirit has opened to you a new insight into your God ordained roles as a good and godly husband. Today, another aspect we are looking at is that as a husband and leader in your family fold, you must have A SOUND AND WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR SHEEP AND CONSEQUENTLY AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM.  A lot of the times, the reason why you struggle to relate with your wife and children in the way that God intends is your lack of a working knowledge of who they are. As the head and spiritual authority of your family, you must appreciate the fact that it’s not just enough to know your flock. It is much more important for you to have an updated knowledge of them. In verse 14 of our main text, the Scripture says I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me. Many husbands are leading a family they do not know. They are in charge of a flock who do not know them. When a leader does not know his followers, he will continue to have problems leading them. You must understand that your wife and children have their peculiar times and phases in life.

And as a leader, you must know these phases of their lives and help them overcome and become better people. But you may want to ask, how do I have a working knowledge of my sheep? Firstly, you must be observant. I have discovered that one of the best ways to learn about a people or place is through keen observation. The Scripture is full of God’s commandment for His children to be observant, and this explains why God gave you two eyes and two ears, so that you can see and hear from both sides. Even Jesus Christ, our Perfect example of how husbands are to behave, related well with His followers by simply observing their conduct and mannerism. Secondly, you must study their personality. Everyone has his or her temperament induced by nature. It has both positive and the negative sides. However, you can use the word of God and the weapon of deep intercession to align their lives to the very life of Jesus.  Thirdly, engage in constant effective communication with your sheep. Working knowledge keeps the fire glowing and puts you in charge.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from spiritual blindness and deafness.
  • Father, by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, open my eyes and ears to observe my flock.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to deal with them according to knowledge.

FAITH CONFESSION

I exercise my eyes and ears that I may observe my sheep and to deal with them as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
