THE POINT MAN (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.3:1-11

More Scriptures: Eph.5:23, Ps.133:2, Matt.16:23

By the grace of God and the help of our Teacher, The Person of the Holy Spirit, I will be sharing with you about the point man. So, let us start by asking few questions around the subject. Who is a point man? What does he stand for? What is the position of the point man in God, in his family and in the market places of life? But let us begin this teaching series by laying the foundation.

In every game, sports or even war, there is one person who influences decisions, provides leadership and has the power and the capacity to turn around the fortune of the team. The point man is so influential that he becomes the prime target of the opposition. The enemies or opponents work hard to limit his influence and command in the game. Even in warfronts, the enemy would rather want the point man dead. No wonder, Jesus speaking in Scriptures says, strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter.  A lot of the times, the point man has the winning formulae, so every member of the team or troop depends on him. The focus is on him. That is who a point man is.

Let’s bring this down to the home front. Your home is made up of team members-your wife, children and yourself. Of these three members of your team, you are the point man. Everything points to you. The surname that your wife and children bear, the reference being made about your family, and the conclusions people would make about your sheep and sheepfold, points to you. Your wife and children look to you for influence, direction, wisdom, counsel, protection, provision, and mentorship. On the other hand, satan, your adversary, wants to devour you because he knows how important you are to your wife and children and how much influence you command in your sheepfold.

In Genesis chapter 2, the Word of God gives us a graphic example of this. And the Lord God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And commanded the man saying of every tree thou shalt eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat (Gen.2:15-17). The instruction and commandment to keep and dress the garden was given to the husband and not the wife. So, the leadership of the Garden was handed over to the shepherd. Even after they disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruits, and God came to visit them in the cool of the day, He called at the point man, the husband. And the Lord God called unto Adam (husband), and said unto him, where art thou? Gen.3:9. The enemy did not target the wife; he targeted the commandment God had given to the point man. This means that the shepherd carries the burden of the sheep on his shoulders. He becomes the godly man, husband and father to his wife and children. That is who you are-the point man in your family.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, reveal my true person as the point man.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from the spirit of foolishness and intimidation.
  • Father, by the power of Your Spirit, make me a prevailing point man in my family fold.

FAITH CONFESSION

I recognize that I am a point man in my family and walk in that reality because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
