WHO PROVIDES LEADERSHIP AT HOME? (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.2:15-18

More Scriptures: 1Tim.5:8, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:7

I honestly did not plan to write on this topic. But as I was rounding up the previous day’s devotional, my Greatest Teacher, the Person of the Holy Spirit, inspired this in my heart to share with husbandman, whom God has ordained as the head of his family-fold. So, let us start this series by asking these questions so that with the answers, we can begin to evaluate our leadership functions from the God’s word as the godly man, husband and father.

Who provides godly leadership in your home? Who calls the shot in the financial management of your family kingdom? Who determines what happens in your family kingdom? Who ultimately acts like the good shepherd at home? These are important questions that you must answer if you want to be relevant in your family and amongst the people out there. The questions are to challenge you to be all that God has created you to be to your wife and children and not to demean the place of your wife or make her look inferior to you. She is not inferior to you and she will never be because the Scripture says so. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers (1Pet.3:7) NIV. So, don’t terrorize your wife and children because you want to call the shots in your family kingdom.

Your value and honour as the head of your family does not lie in what is between your legs. It does not even lie in your looks. It hangs on your ability to function as the shepherd indeed. It is not enough to be called a father. It is not even enough for you to be called a husband. It does not add to your credit that you are called a man. What matters to God is how you function in the discharge of your duties as the godly man, husband and father. God has put in charge of your family kingdom so that you can demonstrate His kind of life to your wife and children. God’s kind of life is the life of a good shepherd and helper. God is not God because He wants to be called so. He is God because He created all things. It is a disservice to the office of the husbandhood for you to be funded by the monies that your wife earns. You are ordained to go out there, work and return home with the harvest of the day. It is against divine order for your children to always refer to your wife when there is need to be met at home. This is not male chauvinist. It is Bible sense. For a husband who does not provide for his relatives and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1Tim.5:8).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, stir up the Spirit of work in my life and let it bless my family.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, please, deliver me from half truth.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, please, bless me after the order of the spiritual examples of husbands and fathers in Your word.

FAITH CONFESSION

I covenant with God today and I and receive grace to be in charge of my family affairs because that is what qualifies me as the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
