HE GENEROUS HUSBAND

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: John 3:14-16

More Scriptures: Pro.15:27, II Cor.9:8, Lk.6:38

Husbands, are you generous to your wife and children? This is the question the Holy Spirit is asking you today. As the head of the family, you cannot separate generosity from your responsibility and calling. When last did you give something of value to your wife and children? One of the principal ways you can witness Jesus Christ to your wife and children is through the power of generosity. Every time you have the opportunity to give to your sheep and you actually did, you have fulfilled the law. There are some husbands who generously give their time to the work of God in their local church, give their 10% tithe to God, yet cannot give to their families. They are not only stingy to their sheep, they are also stingy to themselves. In Jn.3:16, Jesus Christ exemplified the nature of a good shepherd when He said, for God so loved the world that He GAVE….. You cannot claim to love your wife and children without giving to them. Your generosity as the head of the family first starts from your home. If you don’t give generously to your wife and children, you are a failure. You must understand that giving is an attitude. And this attitude is what God wants you to develop in your walk into maturity as the head of the family.

However, for you to be generous to your wife, children and the dying world, you must set your priorities right. What comes first in your life? Is it God or money? In Matt.6:24, the Word of God says that it is either God or money. And if you choose to make God the centre of your focus, it would not be difficult for you to give cheerfully and lavishly to your wife and children. For you to develop a generous life style as the spiritual leader of your home, give regularly by including God and your family in your budget ( 1Cor.16:1-2). Give by faith and trust God that He has the capacity to meet all your needs.

But you may want to ask, what must I give? The first thing that you must give generously to your wife and children is your time, and you give it to them in prayers, word study and God-moment. How much time do you invest in the lives of your wife and children? The time is not measured in quantity but in quality. Give it to them generously. The second thing that you must give is your financial and material resources that God has blessed you with. All that you have comes from God. He blessed you so that you can be a blessing to your family and the people around you.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, break the power of stinginess in my life and make me generous to my family
  • Father, by Your Spirit, empower me with the power to get wealth and help me to use it to bless the world
  • Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from financial limitations and prosper me in all that I do.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a generous husband to my wife and children and to the things of God because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
