Main Scriptures: Proverb 6:16-19

Every husband no matter how anointed you are will be confronted with one or more of the seven (7) types of sin. I call it the perfect sin. Every sinful nature or weakness of any husband revolves around the seven deadly sins. These sins or weaknesses are in our old nature and we must deal with them on a constant and consistent basis as godly husbands if we must see the glory of God in our sheep and sheepfold. God called them sins and that’s what they are. For the Bible says that all unrighteousness is sin (1Jn.5:17).
When we give our lives to Jesus Christ by accepting Him as our Lord and Personal Saviour, what happens is that our spirit man is reborn. However, our physical and emotional state remain unchanged hence have to be transformed (Rom.12:3). Therefore, we don’t expect automatic transformation immediately after new birth rather we must continually work out our salvation with fear and trembling if we desire to be the kind of husbandmen God wants us to be to our sheep.
What then are these perfect sins from the word of God in Proverbs chapter 6 and verses 16 to 19? They are PRIDE, COVETOUSNESS, LUST, ENVY, ANGER, GLUTTONY and SLOTHFULNESS. Every husband who is working to become a godly man, husband and father is confronted daily by circumstances that test his natural tendencies over and above his spiritual dispositions. For instance, as a shepherd, people that you think you are better than suddenly acquire something you had long wished to have. And before you know it, envy begins to well up on your mind. Or maybe someone has offended you and you are so upset and contemplating whether to forgive the person or not. Or perhaps you have not had a good meal for a very long time and suddenly you were invited to a buffet where all things are ready. You are faced with a choice to make-eat right or overfeed (gluttony). As a godly husband, it’s a daily challenge that you must deal with if you must grow into the nature and stature of Jesus Christ.
But how do I subdue and overcome these natural tendencies as a husband who wants to become good and godly to his sheep and sheepfold? You overcome these weaknesses by being spiritual. You must exercise ourselves unto godliness by allowing the Holy Spirit to work His perfect work in our lives (1Tim.4:7). This requires that you pray continually in the spirit, give attention to studying and meditating on God’s word, engage the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, pray for His grace and allow the love of God to rule your heart. You can overcome these weaknesses because you have the mind of Christ and He has given power to live like Him on earth for the benefit of your wife, children and the world.

- Father, by the blood of Jesus, deliver me from presumptuous sin.

FAITH CONFESSION
