TAKE CHARGE

And the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Gen.2:15-17.

The topic for today’s devotional is derived from our main scripture in Genesis Chapter 2 and verses 15 to 16. And that is to remind every husbandman who we are in God and in Christ Jesus. As the head of the family and spiritual leader of your sheepfold, God has vested in you authority and power to oversee your sheep and sheepfold. And this leadership covers everything that has to do with your wife and children- spiritually, emotionally, physically, financially and in all areas. Now, this authority that comes with your leadership is not about dominating your wife and children or becoming autocratic shepherd. It is about providing direction and to determine the type of influences that are allowed into the lives of your sheep and sheepfold.

In our text today, God commanded the husband to take charge. God told him what to eat and what not to eat. This meant that he had the power to determine what happens to his family. Unfortunately, he failed. How? In Gen.3, when the enemy came and engaged his wife in an ungodly conversation, he was watching. In verse 6, the Scriptures say that, and she did eat and gave also unto her husband WITH HER, and he did eat (Gen.3:6). Note the word with. Her husband was right there watching his wife being deceived by the devil. Rather than take charge by commanding the devil to leave his wife alone and command him out of the environment of his home, he compromised himself and ate the forbidden fruit. And this is why when the entire family crashed, God held him responsible (Gen.3:9).

You are the spiritual head of your home. Your position puts you in a vantage position to determine the kind of environment you want for your wife and children. You can take charge of the spiritual atmosphere of your home. You cannot become complacent in the administration of your family kingdom. It is time for you to wake up and let everyone, including the forces in hell, know that you are in total command at all levels of your family life starting with their spiritual lives. However, for you to be in charge, you must give yourself to spiritual demands of prayer, fasting, word study, faith, meditation, and much more. You will also have to ask the Holy Spirit, in prayers for the spirit of discernment. Be in charge. Take charge. That is your call.

• Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from every root of complacency and irresponsibility.
• Father, by Your Spirit, empower me with courage and boldness to fight the enemy of my home
• Father, by Your Spirit, destroy every spirit of fear and intimidation working in my life

FATHER CONFESSION

I take charge of my family kingdom and rule my wife and children in the fear and love of the Lord Jesus Christ because that is my heritage as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
