CONTEND IN BATTLE, DON’T RUN AWAY

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Hebrews 11:32-33

More Scriptures: Ps.82:6, Heb.11:33, 2Sam.7:11

How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephithah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. By faith, these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to fight. (Heb.11:32-34) NLT

Let me begin by saying that the quest to become the godly husbandman is a contest. You cannot become the godly shepherd to your sheep by chance. Satan, sin and the world will oppose you because your godly heritage as the head of your family is a threat to them. So, you must be ready to contend in battle. So, when as the head of the family, you are faced with danger, do you fight or flee? Do you run or fight when you or any of your sheep is confronted with unpleasant situations? These are the questions you must answer as you read on.

As the head of the family, God has ordained you to fight for yourself and defend your wife and children. He has made you more than a conqueror through the finished work of Calvary. Perhaps, the doctor has diagnosed that your wife cannot be pregnant due to some physiological reasons? May be you have you just received a poor academic report about your child? It could also be that you are experiencing very tough times that is threatening your position as the head of your family and by extension your marriage? Do not take a flight, fight back in faith like the great shepherds of old in Hebrews 11:32-34. Your reward is in your fight and not in running away.

Everything that God has kept in your custody is worth fighting for- the relationship with your wife and children, your health and their health, education, spiritual well- being, just anything that concerns your wife and children. It is an abuse of your office for you to run when challenges show up. Why is it an abuse? The Scripture gives the answer. I say, You are gods; you are all children of the Most high (Ps.82:6). You are a god. God described you so. You have authority to exercise His influence and power over the issues and challenges of life. You have the nature of God and the God-nature that you carry is bold and confident. Have you wondered what would have happened to humanity if God fled when satan wanted to take over the throne from Him? Chaos! So, if God didn’t run but fought for His throne, you have no reason to run from those obstacles.

You can fight to recover your wife’s health. You can fight back to win the love of your wife and children. You can fight back to restore the dignity of your child’s spiritual and academic status. You can fight to make your wife pregnant again. You can fight back to stop the tension in your fold. Yes, you can because you are the head of the family. You have been empowered to live a life of triumph. And the principal weapon you will need to fight is faith. In Heb.11:33 the Scriptures say who through FAITH they subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. If you notice the words in this verse of Scriptures, they were plurals-kingdoms, promises and lions. Your pride as the head of the family is rooted in your ability and capacity to fight back through faith. You can win. Yes, you can win that battle. That is where your rewards lie. You are not just the head of the family by words but by actions.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

•           Father, by Your blood, drive out every intruder that have gained access into my home.

•           Father, by the blood of Jesus, close every opening through which the devil has entered my home.

•           Father, by the Spirit of faith, empower me to fight gallantly against every enemy of my life, wife, and children.

FAITH CONFESSION:

I contend with the power of satan, sin and the world through the power of the Finished work of the Cross and I triumph for the good of my family because that is what makes me a good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
