As the head of the family, do something unique to your wife and children to spark a revival in your love relationship within your fold. As the spiritual head of your family, it is not always the big things that make the difference. Most times, it is those little acts of kindness and romance that create a lasting impact in their lives. Now let me tell you what I began to do to my sheep some years which has made a huge positive impact on my relationship with them. I make it a duty to give my wife a kiss on her forehead before I leave for work every morning. And for my children, I give them a high-five for every outstanding result they get either in their tests, exams or in any other endeavour. It is a new way of adding colour to my relationship with my wife and children and it has resulted in a healthy lifestyle amongst every member of the family. In Ss.2:12, the Scriptures say, the flowers appear on the earth. Those little things you do differently to your wife and children do not only spice up your relationship with them, it is like the smell of a rose flower which appears on the earth. In Ss. 5:6, God’s word says those gifts and act of kindness is as a bed of spices as sweet flowers. So, as the head of the family, do something uncommon to your wife and children- make it a duty to celebrate them and buy them gifts, however small they may be.
But how do I remain committed to this task of adding value to my wife and children? Firstly, you must decide in your heart that you want to do it for them. For it is written, nothing will be restrained from them which they have IMAGINED TO DO (Gen.11:6b). Secondly, take practical steps. When your child tells you that they did well in their tests or exams or in any other tasks, celebrate them openly. Send your wife gifts as God empowers you.
So, what do I stand to benefit for doing things differently to my wife and children? You create an impression in their minds that fatherhood is a pride and blessing. It also helps the understanding of your wife and children to appreciate the value of diligence, and they will strive to be better at what they do. In addition to the foregoing, it shows to your wife and children that they have a cheerleader whom they can share their joys and hopes with. You must always recognize that good and great things come in small packages.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
• Father, by Your Spirit, fill me with creative wisdom and help me to operate it in my life.
• Father, by Your Spirit, open my eyes to know what to do differently to honour my wife and children.
• Father, by the blood of Jesus, prosper me financially and materially so that I can fulfill my role to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I receive divine wisdom to act differently and creatively to my wife and children because that is what makes me a good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus glorious name. Amen.
