BE A TEACHER TO YOUR SHEEP (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Mark 6:33-37

More Scriptures: Ps.119:71, Ps.1:17, Tit.3:14

As the head of the family, it is important for you to appreciate that the ultimate reason why God gave you a wife and children, who are in this case your followers, is for you to teach them His ways through His word. Your wife and children are your followers, and you are their leader, and the relationship you have with them is to empower them and teach them the way that they should go. If you read the account of our Perfect example of a good and godly husband, Jesus Christ, in Mk.6:34, you will realize that He was a teacher. He taught His followers. So, you can see that your ultimate role to your wife and children is to teach them-God’s precepts and principles as it relates to their character and attitude, relationship, health, finances, and much more.

And Jesus came, when he came out, he saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things Mk.6:34.

As the good shepherd of your sheepfold, whatever is lacking in the lives of your wife and children, it is your responsibility to provide it for them. But how do I guide or teach them? You do this by your example. Your conduct and action must speak louder than your words. This remains the best examples for your wife and children to follow. For instance, your wife may be intimidated by fear, failure, death or even depression. You can help her escape these oppressions by sharing with her your own testimonies of how you overcame by the word of God. This involves sharing your personal testimonies of victories. And very importantly, when you are faced with tremendous pressure, let your attitude inspire her to be confident that she also can win. You can also extend the same method, which is your example, to your children.  Your sheep will learn better with examples.

However, you cannot become a godly example and teach your wife and children if you do not take personal responsibility to be the example. So, until you take the steps from Scriptures that births victories, it is foolishness to ask others to do the same. It is the steps you have taken that have produced results that you teach them and that is what would make greater impact on your wife and children. If you have taken steps to trust God for your healing or to overcome anxiety, it becomes very easy for your flock to believe you when you teach them about living a victorious life by the Word and in Jesus. When you have walked in sincere submission to authorities and have demonstrated respect to people, it becomes easier for you to teach your flock respect and submission.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the prevailing power in the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from ungodliness.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, baptize me with the spirit of faith and obedience to Your instructions.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with a deeper understanding of Your ways and help me to teach my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am built up in Jesus and I can teach my wife and children His ways because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
