The Person of the Holy Spirit is asking a husband reading this devotional, what is your testimony in the lives of your wife and children? Our main Scripture today gives us graphic details of the testimony of the leader, Paul the Apostle. Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait for the Jews: AND HOW I KEPT BACK NOTHING THAT WAS PROFITABLE UNTO YOU BUT HAVE SHOWED YOU AND HAVE TAUGHT YOU PUBLICLY AND FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE (Acts 20:19-20). Can your wife and children testify that you have not held back anything profitable from them? Can they of a surety say that you have served them with all humility? Can they testify that you have served them with your intercession and prayers? These are some of the results that give expression and value to our headship in our family kingdom. It is not about shouting and scaring your wife and children? It is also not about manipulating the emotions of your sheep. You and I as heads of our families must awake from our slumber and be determined to fight for our glorious position as godly husbandmen.
As the head of your family, your desire for excellence must be driven by the intentions of Paul in Acts 20:24. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24). God wants you to be salt and light to your sheep. God wants to have a good report about you from your wife and children. Therefore, you must not deny your sheep anything good-spiritual, physical and emotional-that will benefit their lives. You must not be tired of investing profitable seeds into their lives. Their bad attitude should not be a hindrance between you and them.
Now, one of the greatest blessings you enjoy when your testimony is as sure as day and night in the lives of your wife and children is that they submit to you in all things, thereby making you an overcomer and a man of power and authority. The Bible testified of Sarah the wife of Abraham when she called him lord. Don’t struggle for identity, authority and control with your wife and children. Just do what Paul the apostle did and watch your sheep embrace your authority and power delightsomely.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the name of Jesus, pour upon me fresh grace to function as the godly husbandman to my wife and children.
- Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from the spirit of envy and bitterness and jealousy.
- Father, by Your Spirit, fill me with divine wisdom so that I will excel as the godly man, husband and father.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give to my wife and children all things that are profitable because that is what makes me a good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
