EXERCISE YOUR DOMINION IN CHRIST

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Kings 4:1-44

More Scriptures: Lk.10:19, Heb:1:2, Deut.4:30

Our main text today is a very long one. It was the story of a woman, her husband and their dead child. They were wealthy but barren. They had waited for a child for a very long time but no success. They had tried everything humanly and scientifically possible to have a child yet no success, until the prophet Elisha showed up. They honoured him through the power of hospitality and he prophesied that in nine months’ time they will have a child. And to the glory of God, they had a child.

Tragically, something happened. The son went to the field with his father and suddenly developed a very bad headache. He cried to his father and rather than the father to call the shots by laying hands on his child and command healing on his son, he said ….carry him to his mother (2Kgs.4:19). Unfortunately, before the child got to his mother from his father, his health had grown from bad to worse. The boy died. It was painful yet the wife and mother was determined to see that her child was restored back to life. She took the initiative even though she didn’t get the support and cooperation of her husband. She ran to meet the prophet. And by the grace of God, he was restored to life. Sadly, this is what is playing out in many homes today-husbands have transferred their spiritual authority to their wives. It is the wife that runs from one prayer house to another, from one pastor to another all in the name of seeking help to overcome the challenges facing their homes. This is why you find more women at prayer meetings, church services and other spiritual arenas.

As the head of the family, you must understand that every time you transfer your spiritual responsibility to your wife, you lose spiritual authority at home. God has made the head in your home so that you can be in charge (1Sam.30:1-3, 6,8,1018-20). You are not just a figure head, you are a spiritual giant and authority. In Lk.10:19 the Bible tells us that Jesus has given you authority and power. For your wife to be the one who always run around for spiritual help in times of crises while you claim to be busy with worldly things is the height of irresponsibility.  But how do I be in charge at home? You call the shots at home as the head by exercising your faith in Jesus Christ. In Heb.11:1-3, the Scriptures say, by faith, the elders obtained good report. You have slept enough, spiritually. Now, is the time for you to rise up and take your place in your family kingdom.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, guide me to discover my role as the head of my family.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, empower me to live up to my responsibilities as the head of the family.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, strengthen my faith to walk in authority in all the affairs of my family life.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I break every root of fear and irresponsibility and I walk in supernatural faith as I lead my wife and children as their spiritual head in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
