THE DEGENERATED MIND

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Cor.13:5-6

More Scriptures: Gal.3:29, Gen.17:1, Jas.1:25

Examine yourself, whether ye be in the faith, prove your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates. But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates (2Cor.13:5-6). Another word for reprobate is degenerated. So, what does it mean to have a reprobate mind? It means to turn the truth on its head -calling lies truth. It is a situation where the conscience of the person is dead to the extent that he doesn’t see anything wrong with wrong.

As the head of your family, God has not given you a reprobate mind. Rather, He has given you His mind -the mind of Christ (1Cor.2:16). He has made you in His image and likeness and so expects you to have a conscience that is alive to His truths (Gen.1:26-28). There is no justification for you to misbehave and excuse it on your wife or children as the reason. Your conscience must prick you time and again when you miss the mark. The day you beat or assault your wife or abuse your children and does not see anything wrong, then know that you are a reprobate husband. The day you no longer tremble at the sight of sin and fear God, then you are heading for disaster. The day you see nothing wrong with sin, then, know that you are doomed. You are the seed of Abraham (Gal.3:29). Abraham was the husband of Sarah. He was a friend of God because He walked before God and was perfect (Gen.17:1). He trembled before the Lord and hated sin with passion. He always walked to please the Lord in all things and as a result, God revealed so many secrets to him. Today, he is being celebrated around the world.

But how do I overcome the force of hell that may want to make me a reprobate husband? Firstly, you must daily examine yourself by placing your life before the mirror of the word of God. The word of God is like a mirror. As you look at it, it shows you who you really are. When you give attention to it and keep it in your heart, it empowers you to live a life well pleasing to your wife and children and to God. Secondly, you must prove yourself by exercising yourself unto godliness. It is not enough for you to know what to do. It is much more important for you to work it out and live it out in the open.  In Jas.1:25, the word of God says, but whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from a reprobate spirit.
  • Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, break the power of sin in my life.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, fill me in greater measure, with the spirit of the fear of God and empower me to be a hearer and doer of Your word.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ and not a reprobate mind, so I walk to please God and to do His will for my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
