ONLY WHAT YOU DO SETS YOU FREE

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Jn.8:31-32

More Scriptures: Rev.2:3, 1Cor.15:10, Rev.2:4

Let me establish here and now that it is not just what you say that brings the freedom you desire but what you do. All through Scriptures, only those who acted on what they said got the results they wanted. So, I encourage you as the head of the family to give attention to what you do to be sure that it agrees with what you say. Now, let us hit the ground running.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free (Jn.8:31-32). I have observed that a lot of husbands know what to do as a man, husband and father, yet they lack the capacity to execute their functions. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, it is not the knowledge of the truth that sets you free; it is your faith and action in the truth that you know that sets you free. It is not enough to know that you should love your wife as Christ has loved the church. It is much more important for you to love her. You must demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ in its fullness to her. It is not sufficient to know that you are commanded by God to nurture your children in the way and admonition of the Lord. It is much more profitable if you truly nurture them by practical involvement. God will not reward you because you are the head of your family. He will reward you according to your works. In Rev.2:2-3, the Scripture says, I (God), know thy works, and thy labour and thy patience and how thou hast tried them, which say they are apostles……(Rev.2:2-3). God knows your work. He made you the husbandman and has some expectations of you. Your life is to please Him through the way you live your life before your wife and children. As the shepherd over your sheep, you must engage in a continuous search to find out the mind of God for your wife and children.

But what steps do I need to take to practice what I know? First, you must learn to look up to God for help. And you do this by engaging the weapon of prayer. In Lk.18:1, the word of God says, men ought to always pray and not faint. And in Matt.7:7, the Bible says, ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find and knock, and the door shall be opened to you. You need to pray for grace, so that you can say like Paul said, I am what I am by the grace of God (1Cor.15:10). Secondly, you must engage with the Person of the Holy Spirit for enduement of power. You need the influence of the Holy Spirit at work in you to really love your wife and children despite their short comings. The Holy Spirit is the force that empowers you to look over their inadequacies. You can never be free from unforgiveness unless you practice forgiveness. You can never be free from covetousness unless you practice giving to your wife and children. Practice is what makes perfect. Be a doer of the word and just a hearer.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, empower me with the Spirit of courage to walk in complete obedience to Your will.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from deceitfulness and lies.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus, empower me to overcome the force of rebellion.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I am a doer of the word of God and I practice what it says because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father to my wife and children in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
