IT’S YOUR JOB TO FIGHT

Spread the love

Main Scriptures:  Micah 6:1-3

More Scriptures: Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4, Jos.24:15

“Let’s go to the mountain top” is one of the many profound statements made by Dr. Martin Luther King (Jnr) during the time he and his team fought against racial discrimination in the United States. And I believe that it is the attitude you and I must have and live with if we want to enjoy daily victory as the godly shepherd. So, let me begin by saying that the call into the office of the husband-hood is not a call to fanfare. It is a call unto spiritual warfare. As the head of the family and the shepherd over the sheep of God in your custody, satan, sin and the world continue to lay obstacles and invincible traps for you with the aim to make you lose your position as the spiritual leader and ultimately dismembered your family fold. Unfortunately, there has been this erroneous teaching that the wife, rather than the husband, is the person who oversees the home, hence she needs to fight to keep her home. When you attend marriage seminars, you find more women than men. And when there is a crisis in the family kingdom, the wife is advised to do everything not to rock the boat. Unfortunately, this teaching is half-truth and has contributed greatly to the increasing number of irresponsible husbandmen in the world, especially in the church.

Let me start by saying that the person whom God has entrusted the family kingdom is YOU-THE HUSBAND (Eph.5:23, Gen.2:15-18). So, you are both the physical as well as the spiritual leader in your sheepfold, where you have your wife and children as the sheep, i.e. followers. Between the leader and the led, who provides leadership? Definitely, it is the leader. Secondly, the life of your wife has been absorbed into your on life as her husband (Gen.3:16). You are her custodian. Thirdly, the glory of your children is your crown (Pro.17:6), and it is your godly and righteous responsibility to nurture them in the way of the Lord (Jos.24:15, Eph.6:4). With this established truth from the Bible, it is evident that you, as the head of your family, have the primary responsibility to arise and contend for the preservation and sustenance of your family kingdom. In Micah 6:1, hear what the Scripture says, hear ye now what the Lord saith, ARISE, CONTEND thou before the mountains and let the hills hear thy voice.

But in what ways can I contend for my family? The principal way you contend is in prayers. The Scripture says let the hills hear your voice. After you have arisen, which is a mark of taking responsibility, you then engage the twin forces of prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29). Secondly, be determined in your heart to succeed as the godly husbandman (Dan.1:8). Also, you must be willing and ready to take full responsibility for the lives of your wife and children. You are their shepherd, and they are your sheep. It is your duty to keep them just the same way Jesus Christ, our Perfect example of how husbands are to behave, kept all that His Father committed into His hands (John 10:28-29). And as you arise and contend, you are stronger together with your wife and children in winning the battles of life (Ecc.4:9-10). You also enjoy fulfillment and enriching fellowship with God and your flocks (Ezk.34:23-26)

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the name of Jesus, build a hedge of protection around my life.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, show Yourself strong and mighty in my family fold.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, empower to arise and fight for my sheepfold and give me victory.

FAITH CONFESSION

As the custodian of God’s heritage, I fight for the restoration, recovery and establishment of my sheep and sheepfold because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
