THEY’RE GOOD, HANDLE WITH CARE (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.1:26-28

More Scriptures: Mal.2:14, Eph.5:22, 1Pt.3:7

Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we were admonished to handle our sheep with utmost care otherwise we may lose both our sheep and sheepfold. What other lessons can we learn from instructions on items we buy, which both the manufacturer and user consider fragile and expensive.?

If you have ever bought a refrigerator, you will see this inscription on the body of the cartonturn this way or this way up. Now, this instruction is to guide the buyer to properly position the item or equipment in order to protect it from being damaged. And this is what the Person of the Holy Spirit is saying to you and I reading this devotional today. There is a way you ought to handle your wife and children, if you want to avoid any damage to their lives-spirit, soul and body”. Just the same way your refrigerator may develop complications if you disobey the instruction of turning it in a particular way, so it is with you when you upturn God’s prescription as to how you relate with your wife and children. There is a way God commands you to function as the godly man, husband and father to your wife and children. It is the best way for you.

But how do I turn my wife and children in the way of the Lord Jesus Christ? You turn them in the way of God first by being humble in your spirit. Humility is the state of your heart to the instructions of God-obeying what He says with delight. And one of the evidences of a humble person is the willingness to accept corrections and be teachable. The Bible reaffirms that God gives grace to the humble and not the proud person. It is true that you are the head of your family. It is also true that you are the man of authority. However, you must appreciate the truth that you are also a man under the authority of Jesus Christ. A life of humility will give you access to the wisdom of God which will give you the power to treat your wife and children as God would. Secondly, you must learn to follow the instructions of God, whether or not it makes sense. A lot of the times, the instructions God gives to you when it comes to your relationship with your wife and children do not make logically sense. For instance, in Colossians 3:19, the Scripture says, husband love your wife and be not bitter against her. Now, does this instruction make any human sense to you, when moment earlier your wife insulted and disrespected you, or even embarrassed you, yet God commands that you extend kindness to her? No, it doesn’t. Yet, it makes God-sense, because the foolishness of God is higher and better than the wisdom of man. In God’s instruction lies your peace. Thirdly, you must be committed to your wife and children. And as you obey God’s instructions and turn your sheep in the way of the Lord, God will give you peace and your sheep will honour you.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to turn my wife and children in the direction that pleases You.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, lift me up and help me to overcome bitterness against my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to walk in Your love toward my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I humble myself before God and I delightsomely obey all that He commands me to do to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
