DON’T FOCUS ON THEIR FAULTS

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Acts 20:35

More Scriptures: 1Cor.13:6, 1Thess.5:14, Nu.13:18

One of the mistakes we make as shepherds to dwell so much on the faults of our sheep that we easily lose track of their good sides. And we justify our inactions be saying that our sheep pushed us to the wall. But God by His Spirit is saying to you and me not to focus on the weaknesses, failures, and mistakes of our sheep. As the head of the family and the spiritual leader of the home, what does it mean to look away from the faults of your wife and children? It means that you don’t celebrate the weakness or meditate on the faults of your wife and children. This is so very important, considering the fact that your wife and children are not perfect people. Every time you look intently at the failings of your sheep, it tends to get bigger. And that is what the devil wants you to continue to do. This is why no matter what your wife and children do, you will never see anything good about them. This is what the Bible calls a judgmental spirit. If you allow yourself to see only the bad side of their lives, you will be pushed by the devil to seek for alternatives in the brothel, beer parlour, and in the arms of another woman or even take revenge against them.

Jesus Christ, our example of how husbands must behave to their sheep, died for us while we were yet in sin. He didn’t consider our weakness or failings. He did not dwell on it rather His mercies were new every morning. He nonetheless loved us and gave Himself to us. That is the character of a godly husband. You must be willing to lay down your guard of criticism about your wife and children and lift up the banner of love. You must celebrate their strength rather than their weaknesses. Looking away from your wife’s and children’s faults does not imply that those inadequacies do not exist. They exist. Do I look away from those faults and allow them to be destroyed? No. So, what do I do to ensure that my wife and children overcome their weakness? The Bible gave the answer. It says, I travail in prayer that Christ be formed in you (Gal.4:19). From this Scriptures, the most important thing that you must do is to engage the weapon of prayer to enforce the needed changes in their lives. You cannot allow them to live their lives the way they want to, even if it leads to their destruction. You must travail to improve their spirit, soul and body. You are the head of the family. God placed you as the shepherd over them and He would demand accountability from you of what you did and didn’t do. You must remember that their joy is your joy. Their happiness is your happiness. You must never give up on your wife and children. It is too early to quit. You have a mandate from God to demonstrate His love to them.
