LEAVE AN INHERITANCE FOR YOUR SHEEP

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen. 24:35-36

More Scriptures: Mk.11:23, Pro.1:3, Rom.10:10

And the Lord hath blessed my master greatly, and he is become great and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and men servants and maidservant, and camels and asses. And Sarah my master’s wife bare a son to my master when she was old and UNTO HIM HATH HE GIVEN ALL THAT HE HATH (Gen.24:35-36)

One of the truths from the word of God for you and me as heads of our families is to leave inheritance for our sheep. The plan of God for you is to be blessed and be a blessing to your wife and children. And one of the ways to prove that you are blessed is to leave an inheritance for your sheep. From our Bible passage in Genesis chapter 24 and verse 36, you will observe what was said about Abraham the husband of Sarah. It says, unto him (Isaac) hath he given all that he hath (Gen.24:36). You must understand that God takes delight and pleasure in seeing you take personal responsibility over your sheep and sheepfold. Stories abound of husbandmen who have given all that they have to their mistresses, relations and even friends rather than to their own sheep. Sadly, when these shepherds die, they leave their sheep in pain and penury. This is not the way to go as the godly man, husband and father. As the head of the family, you have many examples to follow in Scripture. In Genesis chapter 2, God left an inheritance to His creature, Adam, the husband of Eve. Abraham, the husband of Sarah, also left an inheritance for Isaac.

But you must understand that if you don’t have anything, you cannot leave an inheritance for your wife and children. So, what must you and I do to have material inheritance which we can leave for our sheep? The first step is for you to have a personal relationship with the Person of Jesus Christ by accepting Him as your Lord and personal saviour. This decision to make Jesus Christ the Lord over your life is more than just saying it with your lips. It must be from your heart and a choice you make to desire to live like Him to your wife, children and humanity (Jn.3:3-6, Rom.10:10, Matt.22:37). Secondly, you must accept what God said concerning your life as the shepherd of His sheep-that you are ordained to have and leave behind for your wife and children material possessions. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, says, if thou will doubt in his heart but believe that all he has asked, he has received, it shall be done for him (Mk.11:23). Thirdly, you must work and be diligent with and in what you do. There is no future for a lazy man neither is there hope for an indolent shepherd.  ……….and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper (Ps.1:3).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the name of Jesus, give me understanding and fill my heart with wisdom.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, please, bless and prosper the work of my hands.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, pour upon me the spirit of diligence.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a diligent worker and God has prospered my work and endeavour and I have abundant material and financial blessing to leave for my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
