CHARGE OF THE HOUSE

Did you know that your sheepfold which God committed into your care is like a chamber-a prosperous and protected fortress? Did you also know that your chamber, that is, your sheepfold has wonderful prospects? And did you know that your wife and children and the sheepfold need to be protected from satan, sin and the world? If you did not know all these, then today’s devotional presents to you Scriptural basis for you to operate in the fullness of your power and authority as the head of your family.

And he said unto me, this chamber, whose prospect is toward the south, is for the priests, the KEEPERS OF THE CHARGE OF THE HOUSES (Ezk.40:45).

As the head of the family, there are three offices that you occupy. The first is the office of the pastor (1Tim.3:4-5). The second is the office of a prophet. It you shall declare it and it shall come to pass (Job 22:28). The third is the office of the priest (Num.6:22). As the priest, you are the go-between. You are the gateman, the keeper of the treasures of God. And these treasures are your wife and children and household. In Gen.2:15, the word of God tells us the origin of your authority to be in charge of your sheepfold. And the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to dress it and keep it (Gen.2:15). God has entrusted your sheep and sheepfold into your care. It is a trust that you must maintain.

Now, what prospects does your wife and children have that will commit you to keep charge of the sheepfold? The Bible tells us about the prospects. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life……strength and honour are her clothing……(Pro.31:11-12, 25). Read this. Husband, deal with your wife according to knowledge that your prayers may not be hindered (1Pet.3:7). Another vital reason is found in Proverbs chapter 4 and verses 7-12.

What about your children? This is what the Bible says about them. And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles and their offspring among the people. All that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed (Is.61:9). Your children are seeds of greatness. They have greatness in them. It is this greatness in your wife and children that satan is fighting hard to destroy, so he gives you reason why you should abandon your wife and children and become negligent over your stewardship as the head of the family.

When you understand the prospects that God has for your wife and children from the Bible, you will indeed keep charge over their lives and your sheepfold. And that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the name of Jesus, open my eyes of understanding to discover Your glorious plans for my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to function as the gatekeeper of my sheep and sheepfold.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every root of discouragement as I keep watch over my household and lead my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the Spirit of Christ in me and I walk in authority, power and divine wisdom in keeping my wife and children and my household because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
