DEVELOPING CAPACITY-GOODNESS (7)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ps.25:6-7

More Scriptures: Rom.12:21, Ps.23:6, Rom.12:10

Halleluyah! Today, by the grace of God, we would be concluding on the series we started in the last couple of days. I have no doubt in my heart that the Person of the Holy Spirit has expounded deeper meaning of His word in your heart and the grace to be both a hearer and a doer of the instructions has been given to you. You shall not fail God. You shall not fail your wife. You shall not fail your children. You shall not fail the world.

Let us consider another ingredient you require to feed your inner man toward becoming the good and godly husbandman. It is goodness. Another word for goodness is kindness. It also means compassion. So, the anchor Bible passage I want us to look at today is the book of Psalms. Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy loving kindnesses, for they have been ever old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions, according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’s sake, O Lord (Ps.25:6-7). Consider for a moment, what would have happened to you if God were to remember and judge you over the sins and unworthy life you lived when you were a youth or even now. Imagine for a second, if God had withheld His mercies and kindness from you when you disobeyed Him, when you were disloyal to Him and disrespected Him. Think about it. If every time you derail from His instruction as the godly man, husband and father, He decides to stop His kindness from reaching you, how would your life be? Now, notwithstanding all your inadequacies, errors of commission and omission and failures, your Father, who is in heaven, is still kind to you. He did not withdraw the sun from shining on you. He did not withdraw the rain from falling on and around you. He still helped you.

That is the mindset that God wants your inner man to have so that your outward man can extend kindness to your sheep when they offend you in every way. As the head of your family and the shepherd over the sheep of God in your custody, let this mind be in you even the mind of Christ. The mind that will not withhold good from his wife and children. The mind that will still provide for his family, care and protect and guide. The mind that will still honour his wife and children. The mind that will still pray for his wife and children. That is the mind Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, wants you to have, nurture, develop and extend to your wife and children.

Now, what happens when you have this mind of goodness working in you and through you to your wife and children? Firstly, you demonstrate to your sheep the personality of God, that He is a merciful, kind and a loving father. Secondly, your sheep grow up to become a channel of kindness and goodness to the world, overcoming evil with good. Be not overcome by evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the name of Jesus, forgive me for withholding good from my wife and children because of offence.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with Your mercy, goodness and kindness and please let it flow through me to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to overcome the failures of my sheep with Your goodness.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am filled with the goodness and mercies of the Lord, and His kindness flow through me to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
