Capsule 25: YOUR WORDS FRAME YOUR SHEEP

And SAUL SAID, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, thou shalt this day be my son-in-law in the one of the twain. (1Sam.18:21).

Imagine what a shepherd, Saul, had set in his mind for his sheep. Saul set-up his own daughter as a snare against David, his son-in-law. Did she eventual become what her father declared her to be during her stay with David? The answer was yes. This is the lesson for you and I as good and godly shepherds to our sheep. Let us be mindful of what we speak privately and openly to our sheep because our words frame them. Do you know why your words are powerful enough to mould your sheep? It is because you are made in the image and likeness of God, so you carry His nature. In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form or void and darkness was upon the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the water. AND GOD SAID………. And GOD SAW EVERYTHING that HE HAD MADE and BEHOLD IT WAS VERY GOOD…..(Gen1:1-3, 31). And so, let us make man in our image and likeness and God made man in His image and after His likeness (Gen.1:26-27). Let’s look at the book of Hebrews. Through faith, we understand that the WORLDS WERE FRAMED BY THE WORD OF GOD…..(Heb.11:3).

If you say to your wife that she is beautiful, surely, she will look beautiful even after so many years of marriage and that will always motivate you to desire her. If you say she is ugly, assuredly in the mind of your eyes she will be ugly, no matter the make and facelift that she does. If you say that your wife is a fool, she will end up being foolish to you. If you say she is wise, she will end becoming a wise woman to you. If you say to your wife that she is fruitful and prosperous, she will succeed in all that she does. If you say to her that she is a failure, she will fail and everything about her in your eyes will be a failure. If you say to your child (ren) he or she is a dummy, they will truly become one in your eyes. If you say to them that they are blessed and above only, they will surely turn out to be excellent in every aspect of their lives. If you say to your child(ren) that he or she is useless, they will be so in your eyes and become useless to you.

I can testify that I have seen the reality of this biblical truth in my life and family. You may not see the effect today but wait for the manifestation in the future. As the shepherd over your wife and children, you must be very careful what you say to your wife and children when you are angry or happy with them. You must guard your heart so that your mouth will speak only goodness and not unrighteousness. This is very important because you are ensnared by the words of your mouth and you are also justified by the words that you speak (Pro.6:2)

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, have mercy upon me for speaking hurting words to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to guard my heart so that I can exercise control over my mouth.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to speak Your blessings and goodness to my wife and children from Your word.

FAITH CONFESSION

I guard my heart and my mouth from speaking ungodly words to my sheep rather I speak graceful words to them because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
