Main Scriptures: Eph.6:17-19
More Scriptures: Jn.14:26, Ps.44:3, Lk.18:1
Did you know that as the head of your family, much prayer results in much power? Sometime back I once remarked that a prayerless husbandman is a powerless shepherd. And any husband who has not learned how to win on his knees shall struggle to reign as a king and priest in his sheepfold. The truth is that challenges would come. Notwithstanding the challenge, you can triumph over them by the weapon of effectual prayer. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in prayers for all believers everywhere (Eph.6:18). As the head of the family, it is very important that you understand the place of the Holy Spirit-His Person, power, and personality-in prayer. The Person of the Holy Spirit empowers you with insight into the future. He prompts you to know why your wife and children behave the way they do. He even shows you things to come, “I will send you the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, and He will show you things to come…. Jn.14:26.
They did not conquer the land with swords. It was not their own strong arm that gave them victory. It is your right hand and strong arm and the blinding light from your face that helped them, for you loved them (Ps.44:3) NLT. The Spirit of God is the power of God that will help you to win over any and every challenge in your sheepfold. And you contact His power on the altar of prayer. You cannot overcome a disobedient wife and children by beating them up. You cannot bring your wife and children under the influence of God by suppressing and denying them the things that pertain to life and godliness. You need the empowerment of the Spirit of God to win, and you access it by praying. In Acts chapters 1 and 2 respectively, the disciples prayed until they became empowered by the Holy Spirit. As a result, they began to do what they couldn’t ordinarily do. So, you must learn the art of praying fervently. Prayer is the channel through which you place a demand on God through Jesus Christ, for the release of power to function maximally as the good and godly husbandman. Men ought to always pray and not faint (Lk.18:1). When you pray and you are empowered by the Spirit of God, you can overcome the frustrations that come with dealing with a disrespectful and rebellious wife and children as well as the challenges of life.
God wants you to reign as a king and priest on the earth (Rev.5:10-12). He wants to help you live a fulfilled life as the good and godly shepherd. You have the responsibility to work with Him to make your life count positively through effectual prayer life.
