BECOME THE EXAMPLE, WALK IN LOVE AS CHRIST

Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children and walk in love as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour (Eph.5:1-2).

Apostle Paul gave this admonition to disciples. He said to them to follow God and walk in love as Christ as loved them. He encouraged them to live a life of sacrifice and purity unto God. This words in Ephesians chapter 5 and verses 1 and 2 is very important for you as the good and godly shepherd. Paul could speak to his disciples to follow Jesus Christ because he was an example to them-he followed God.

As the head of the family and the shepherd of your home, your wife and children are expected to follow you because you are like Christ in your home. If they don’t follow you, then something is very wrong. Isaac followed the godly example of his father, Abraham. Sarah followed the example of her husband, Abraham (Gen.12:1-3). For you to encourage and lead your wife and children to follow God and His words, you must first be a follower of Jesus Christ. It is your walk with God that determines how much influence you will have over your wife and children.

As the godly husbandman, if your wife and children have become rebellious or resist following you, you must ask yourself these following questions. Am I living a transparent life that my wife and children can emulate? Have I truly been a worthy mentor to them? Does my action towards them and the things of God agree with what I say? Have I said something negative or did something different? Your wife and children are watching you. If they don’t see you as a worthy example, they will not follow you and the God you serve, no matter how much you shout, complain or intimidate them.

Therefore, it is important for you to continually examine your life to see if you are still doing the right thing to God and to them. You must examine your life if indeed, it is the example your wife and children would want to emulate (2Cor.13:5).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be a living example of Your life to my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the spirit of truth and righteousness.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me and my wife and children followers of Your words and works.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a follower of God and His works and my wife and children will follow me and the God I serve in truth and in spirit because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
