Main Scriptures: Pro.4:20-27
More Scriptures: Gen.14:23, Acts 20:33, 1Kg.9:4.
Any husbandman who wants to be relevant beyond his life span must understand the importance of living a life of principles based on the word of God. The application of the word of God must form the base on which you build a life of righteousness. Many husbandmen have been ruled by the dictates of their culture rather than what the word of God says. In Pro.4:25, the Scripture says, let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder on the path of your feet and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left. Remove your foot from evil (Pro.4:25-27). From this verse of Scripture, three eternal principles can be deduced that will benefit every husbandman who is desirous of becoming a godly heritage.
Firstly, when you live a principled life, it provides you a guide and helps you to stay focused on the right path. Secondly, when you live a principled life, it guards your heart from making the wrong decisions as the good and godly man, husband and father. Thirdly, your godly principled life provides the appropriate gauge which enables you to evaluate where you are in your walk with God. In Gen.14, after Abraham, the husband of Sarah, was returning from the war front, he met with the king of Sodom, who offered him a gift. It was an innocent and deserving offer. But because Abraham was a man of principle, he refused. He said, I have lifted up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth. That I will not take from a thread even a shoe latcher, and that I will not take anything that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich (Gen.14:22-23).
As the head in your home, you must continue to make your principle obvious for your wife and children to see. However, you need the help of God to remain steadfast in doing the right things. The Scripture tells us that without Him, you cannot do anything (Jn.15:5). So, you must continue to seek the help of God through the Person of the Holy Spirit to empower you to live a life that pleases God. This is because you will be tested by satan, sin and the world. God also could also test you. God had tried the character of Sarah’s husband in Gen.22:1. God wanted to test the integrity of Abraham and so He asked him to offer his only son, Isaac, as a sacrifice. Abraham did not fail God and God blessed him when he passed the test (Gen.22:16). You do not have the right to claim that you are a man of honour and integrity until you have passed the test- test of money, power, position and women. Living by the word of God brings you peace and joy and defines your headship as the good and godly husbandman to your wife, children and in the marketplace of life.
