Main Scriptures: Gen.2:14-25
More Scriptures: Col. 3:21, Ps.22:4, Jer.11:4
Last week Sunday was Father’s Day. It was a time when the world celebrates fathers. I read lots of comments about the pains, joys and blessings of being a father. So, today, I believe we are still in the celebration mood of the Father’s Day, hence I want to share with you the fatherhood nature of the good and godly husbandman. I trust God that as you give attention to this teaching, your life will never remain the same again in Jesus name. Amen.
Let me begin by saying that you are a-three-in-one personality as the husbandman. You are the man, the husband and the father. Did you know why you are a triune? It is because you are made in the image and likeness of God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Gen.1:26-28). Now, God said, let us (God, Jesus and Holy Spirit) make man in our own image and after our likeness (Gen.1:26). And when Jesus Christ was to return to the Father, He promised to send the Person of the Holy Spirit, the third Personality of the God head.
But who is a father and what makes him the godly father? A father is an IDENTITY, a MALE FIGURE who PROVIDES PROTECTION, STRUCTURE, MORAL VALUES, BLUEPRINT, VISION and PURPOSE for the FAMILY. Now, anyone can be a father, but it takes a responsible, committed, sacrificial and God-fearing man to be the good and godly father. The real father makes all the positive difference in the child’s life. He is a pillar of strength, support, and discipline. His work is endless and oftentimes thankless. That you have children is not what gives value to your fatherhood. Being the real father is more than having a child that bears your name. Your true worth is determined by how much work you are willing to engage in as demanded by God in His word in the direction of your children. You can only proof your worth as the good and godly father in the lives of your children by your conduct, attitude, values and sense of responsibility. You also do not command respect and honour from your children because you are their father but because you are discharging your God ordained responsibilities. Fatherhood comes with enormous responsibilities and investments. There are two Scriptures I want you to meditate on and use as your anchor as the godly father. The first is Deuteronomy chapter 6:4-9. The second is Ephesians chapter 6 and verse 4.
You are more than a sperm donating agent. You are the good and godly father. Your child or children are seeds from God. God will hold you accountable for what you did and did not do with the children He has blessed you with. You are the agent of godly change in the lives of your children.
So how do I nurture my child as the good and godly father?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me to discover my role as the father of my family.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live up to my responsibilities as the head and father to my children and wife.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, strengthen my faith to walk in authority in all the affairs of my family life as the father.
FAITH CONFESSION
I take full responsibility to teach, guide, motivate, inspire, protect, care, love, provide and sacrifice my comfort for my children because that is what makes me the good and godly father in Jesus name. Amen
